Rated 2 out of 5Â by NO more MAYTAG Barely Alive!
I've had this machine for 3 years now. I've decided if it dies - I will not buy another MAYTAG product ever, ever again. The first year I owned this machine - it was serviced every quarter for almost a year with the same problem over and over again. I had owned the computerized model for over 15 years and absolutely loved it - this was the MAYTAG quality I remembered from my Grandmother and Mother. I don't understand why MAyTAG chose to make this model a knob and turn machine - ridiculous. If you buy this machine - do so knowing that the quality is subpar - it will wash and dry okay - and everyone in your neighborhood will know you're doing the laundry because it is loud!

I had a stackable Maytag for years and loved it. What I wish I would have understood was this is a extremely energy efficient which means it will not wash clothes very well. 1) On a large load the tub only fills about half way ....If you use a screw driver and make the washer work while the door is open you can see that only a small portion of the load is getting agitated with much more stress on the clothes....there is not enough water. I thought it was not working properly....but reading the instructions I find that Maytag made it to work this way.
2) The machine will not let hot water fill it, it dummies it down to warm water...Another terrible feature.
ALMOST ALL CLOTHES HAVE SOME SYNTHETICS AND BLEACH WILL ONLY MAKE HOLES EVENTUALLY IN THE CLOTHES, SO HOT WATER IS THE ONLY WAY TO SANITIZE REALLY DIRTY CLOTHES. (you would think Maytag engineers would know this, but it seems obvious they never had to clean a load of dirty laundry)
My husband is a carpenter and gets grease, tar sap etc. on his jeans and also sweats. How will I get his clothes clean now? No water, no heat. Good question. I turned up my hot water heater WAY UP, in hopes I may get some hot water in the washing machine. How much energy am I saving now? I also use EXTRA buckets of water to help the load wash. I mainly will be doing twice the wash. I will be forced to do small loads on full. Many more loads to try and get really dirty clothes clean. I am so disappointed in Maytag. I can't return this machine and now am stuck with it. I don't think the motor will last that long because of the pressure to try to agitate clothes with barely any water.
I didn't have the space to buy something different, but I wish I had found a different brand that didn't have these stupid features. AND I am not 6 feet tall and find the operating knobs a foot above my head....what a stupid place to put them.
Maytag took A WONDERFUL, EFFICIENT old style washer made it VERY INEFFICIENT TO CLEAN CLOTHES, squashed it down and made it slightly bigger on the outside, shorter and the operating knobs in the sky. I am beyond disappointed, I am mad to have thrown my money away on this ridiculous excuse for a washing machine.

I have only used this for a little over 1 month and so far It has performed perfectly. This replaced a similar unit from a different manufacturer I had for 20+ years. I do not miss the old unit at all.

The washer has extremely low water level when it is set on "high"...looks like a "medium" level. Dryer overheats and won't restart until waiting for it to cool down. It doesn't get even a small load (2 t-shirts and a pair of knee length misses pants) dry when set on sensor dry.

Bought this washer/dryer this summer & have not had any problems since it started running. The only issue was a loose a/c power cord wire in the back from shipping. It is very quiet & efficient. The spin part of the wash cycle is the quietest & smoothest of any washer I have ever had.
