Our installation was exactly this. The gas line into the water heater had an extension to the unit.

Answer:
Yes, but they will refer you to an approved sub contractor and it costs quite a bit depending how far away it is from the gas source. I wouldn't get this appliance!

If one does not use the lint trap properly, by that I mean have it set into the housing, what could happen to the dryer.? Any damage to it? My tenant did this and I want to know if I should charge them for improper usage of the dryer.

Have multiple stacked W/D in rental property over the years and that lint trap is a big problem for tenants. Not sure exactly "what" the problem is other than they fail to realize the importance of it needing to be cleaned after "every" use and not to empty the lint along side the enclosure.
Fact is a large number of house fires are caused by dryer lint and had at least one with evidence of a flash fire around burner can. That can is a full on "open" flame so any renegade lint floating around is subject to catching fire.
If you've ever repaired one of these units, its obvious If the trap is not in the housing, lint is subsequently sucked into the fan, housing of which has a foam seal, which can likely begin leaking, circulating lint throughout the dryer encasement.. In another instance, the motor became encased with lint, over heated and caused motor to fail. When opened, the entire interior completely covered with link and amazingly didn't catch fire. And that included the control panel interior.
Therefore, the dryer situation is usually operator error. And, as you can see, abusing that lint trap can create problems ranging from failed motors, to the much more serious, a fire. Whether or not you can nail monetary value to the abuse is another question, as over the years simply buy the parts and repair myself.
Fact is you can just never trust tenants to maintain them and have to continually check the unit yourself. The front panels are very easy to remove and vacuuming any excess lint and such on a regular basis probably a good idea.

Answer:
I am not sure what you mean by "set into the housing". If you would clarify, that would be helpful. I am going to refer you to insideadvantage.com. Place the model number in the search in the top right corner. View the Installation Guide, pages 12-14, this will show the venting information for this appliance. Answer:
It is possible to convert the dryer portion of this stacked appliance from natural gas to liquid propane. You would need to purchase a propane conversion kit. You can inquire further into obtaining this kit by calling The Home Depot/ Whirlpool Corporation hotline at 877.461.3376, Option 2, Option 1. Thank you for viewing this Maytag home appliance.

This is for the Maytag staced 2.5 cu. ft washer dryer electric. The base looks like it could kick back more but with removal of the frame the drayer would have to be supported I assume on the wall is this possible? I would like to use next to base kitchen cabinets but with the frame it would kick out, would like it more flush

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Barely Alive! I've had this machine for 3 years now. I've decided if it dies - I will not buy another MAYTAG product ever, ever again. The first year I owned this machine - it was serviced every quarter for almost a year with the same problem over and over again. I had owned the computerized model for over 15 years and absolutely loved it - this was the MAYTAG quality I remembered from my Grandmother and Mother. I don't understand why MAyTAG chose to make this model a knob and turn machine - ridiculous. If you buy this machine - do so knowing that the quality is subpar - it will wash and dry okay - and everyone in your neighborhood will know you're doing the laundry because it is loud! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not as good as expected I have owned many Maytags over the years and this is the first disappointment. While the new one piece stacker is more energy efficient on both gas and water, it is extremely noisy, the washer is no where near the capacity I expected given the dimensions (but without a floor model to examine prior to purchase) and the water does not fill all of the way when set on large load. The tub only fills to about half capacity. Overall, I am keenly disappointed wishing I had purchased the Kenmore instead. I sincerely wish I had my Maytag wringer back. I would have made major changes to my laundry room to accommodate the wringer. Never gave me one ounce of trouble. May 2, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ok machine makes to much noise I bought this less then 2 month ago and i had the maytag man out for repair all ready and if I realized how much noise it made I would of gotten something different reviews said it was noise but I didn't think it would be that loud should of had my last washer fixed but it was 30 years old and never had a repair man out and it was a maytag ( same style) but really don't think this one will last that long cause I had a repair already wish me luck January 9, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fine product for the size Bought this washer/dryer this summer & have not had any problems since it started running. The only issue was a loose a/c power cord wire in the back from shipping. It is very quiet & efficient. The spin part of the wash cycle is the quietest & smoothest of any washer I have ever had. September 2, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far, So good! I have only used this for a little over 1 month and so far It has performed perfectly. This replaced a similar unit from a different manufacturer I had for 20+ years. I do not miss the old unit at all. November 19, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Landlord purchase for rental Landlord purchased to replace 16 year old dead stackable. Washer seems lower to the floor and the whole unit seems deeper than the previous one. Still, it fits in a kitchen corner. Installation wasn't satisfactory - I had to have a friend whose father owns an appliance store come and look at it. This unit may not need a solid J-shaped dryer vent even if it seems "required" - mine made a terrible noise until it was removed and connected to the dryer tube directly. In the last week, I'm also concerned about water I think is leaking from the lower left corner onto the kitchen floor - since it's not mine, going to have to discuss it with the landlord. I don't think the machine is off-balance but it's hard to tell. Washer is noisy, but clothes do smell cleaner than the previous w/d. Dryer not great for heavy items, but above average for lightweight loads. I cannot rate energy efficiency because I am in a rental where a flat rate is paid to a homeowners association for all utilities, including gas. I am grateful, but would advise landlords to think twice. I still prefer the off-brand washer and dryer I got from Home Depot 5 years ago, in the home I own in another city! December 23, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointment The washer has extremely low water level when it is set on "high"...looks like a "medium" level. Dryer overheats and won't restart until waiting for it to cool down. It doesn't get even a small load (2 t-shirts and a pair of knee length misses pants) dry when set on sensor dry. September 21, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good. Both the washer and dryer are louder than anything we've owned, but that's the only complaint thus far. September 24, 2013
