Customer Questions & Answers

Leaking when connected to hose, help!

I connect this connector to a hose and it's leaking water. What can I do to stop water from leaking between the connector and the hose? Thanks.
Asked by: Evergeen
Check the rubber washer in the hose inlet. Clean washer and the splitter threaded end from any debris or hard deposits. Replace washer if necessary. Occasionally, adding a second washer helps. Use teflon tape on threads.

I have used this product for a couple weeks now and I am pleased with the quality of construction. The fittings are well made and it seems like a product that will last a long time. I bought this connector to replace a cheaper one that broke after about 1 year....the control handle on one side broke off, and when closed the valve still allowed some water to pass through. This one seems much more solid...the handles open/close with a solid feel and there is no water leakage when closed.

The cut-offs are a bit stiff right now, so a good deal of force is needed to switch them on or off, but they'll probably loosen up over time. The faucet that I have this connector on faces south, so it'll be getting a lot of sun. It will be interesting to see how the plastic parts hold up over time. At this time, I have a hose with a quick connect on one side, and the other side is open to allow filling a watering can for plants on the porch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not enough threads This item made of brass and is of good quality. However, there are not enough threads. As a result it does not screw on enough and the connection comes apart. I don't think it actually screws on a full turn which is not enough to keep it secure. I purchased this item to screw on the end of a hose so I can turn off the water in order to attach another hose or a nozzle or sprinkler. I have to use pliers to attach it securely enough so as not to come off the hose.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a quality product This connector was poorly manufactured and leaks. I tried several hoses, replaced hose washers, wrapped with Teflon tape to try to help seal the connection, nothing worked. I tried the hoses on another connection and no leaks. I ended up buying a different type of Y connector with the same hoses and it worked flawlessly. While this may be an isolated case, I would not waste the money on it.

I recently found an old one of these that was bought by the previous owner of our house. Both valves were in the open position and there was corrosion around the valve handles. I managed to get one valve closed but the other plastic handle broke off. My point is that even though this thing was old, corroded, and now broken, it still didn't leak. The ball valves on the inside were still shinny and tight fitting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK but could be better I bought this to replace one just like it that I had bought not long ago. A few weeks ago I "bumped" the first one and it broke the "Y" section off. The metal thickness where it broke was no more than 1 mm. I think if the manufacturer would make the connector twice as thick, it would be a great product and not just a fair product, and should not add too much to its already high price.
