you need to rotate the dial at the end of the head. It may be difficult to move but you can do it if you are wearing gloves. Also make sure the water pressure is high enough to rotate the wand.

Try turning the water on full force. Have you tried putting any oil on the moving parts? If that doesn't work you probably have a dud.

For the full coverage setting, there is no picture...I just tried to center the setting to the exact opposite side of the picture with the full shaded rectangle. If that doesn't work, I would return it, and try another. These sprinklers never last long for me, & often get stuck. Best of luck.

the most common problem with a sprinkler not oscillating is lack of water pressure. if you have plenty of pressure you may wish to get a little WD-40 and spary the points where parts meet up.

Oscillate is what these do, no settings on your part are necessary.
Odds are you are not using it at full power, these do not function at less than full power.

most of the time you will find the screen is dirty. Or maybe the setting is wrong. Or water pressure is to low. If none of these Ideas work , it might just be defective. Return to the store for a new one.

Have you looked on the instructions on the box? Tried a good quality oil like WD40? My answer to all things stuck, oil! If that doesn't work and instructions don't resolve the problem call or email Home Depot. They are great at assisting with issues such as yours and I know they would be happy to resolve any problems with your sprinkler to your satisfaction.

I am not sure what exactly you're asking. When you connect it to a hose and turn on the water, it will start oscillating and spraying water. You can adjust the width of the areas it sprays by turning the yellow dial. It's a bit difficult to tell what the adjustments do just from the images on the dial, so my advice is to turn it, run back quickly so you don't get soaked ;) and see how it sprays. Adjust Read More

My sprinkler stops oscillating when the water pressure dips a little, and sometimes it just decides that it does not wish to play at all. I think it's a poor design and recommend you take it back.

How to set this sprinkler to spray a narrow pattern?

There are no instructions for this sprinkler, just a vague picture of the settings on the box. I tried to set it to the 2 solid boxes (i think that's what the picture is saying, for narrow?), but it still sprays in a wide, fan- like spray. Anyone figure out how to narrow the spray? I'm watering my driveway and my neighbors house. Thanks.

Dear Kaybee: You cannot narrow the spray pattern on this sprinkler -- only adjust the forward and backward sweep range.

Home Depot sells another inexpensive sprinkler with the ability to adjust the width of the spray pattern: Melnor Model # 172-849, Home Depot Internet # 202051539 Store SKU # 172849. I bought two of them, and they work great. As you noted, a narrow spray pattern is often helpful.

Unfortunately, this sprinkler is very difficult to read the coverage settings on the dial and set. It's a bit more like trial and error to figure out which is what you want. I believe the center setting is the narrowest part of the dial pointer. The coverage is the part that is fully covered and outset from the plastic. The outlined block on the images on the dial shows where it doesn't spray. Try the narrow side and if that doesn't do it, try the thicker side. Read Less

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by No oscillation Just bought this and am unable to get it to oscillate. It just waters in whatever direction it is pointed. This is not what I bought it for. Looking at other reviews it appears Melnor needs to address this problem September 23, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality but it takes too much water pressure to operate; cannot water less than 900 sq.ft. at a time. October 26, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job, and then some! Saves me so much money on my water bill. So glad I purchased it. October 20, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Might have been a good product.... It took me an hour to realize that the reason I could not get this to work properly is that a piece was broken. This piece prevented the sprinkler from oscillating consistently. I have replaced it with a different style from another store and will be returning it to Home Depot. October 2, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ugh My local Home Depot sprinkler inventory was depleted so I opted for the last one of these in stock. It has a good stream/coverage area but the settings are impossible to figure out. The diagram settings provided (no written instruction) do not match what actually happen with the coverage area. No matter the setting, can not get a full left to right narrow spray area. October 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Oscillating? Sprinkler won't oscillate at all -it just stands straight up in the air and clicks. No matter what setting, what adjustment, or what pressure. What gives! May 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dont waste your money OR YOUR TIME Not user friendly. Difficult to adjust the spray patterns based on the dial because you cant see the selection when the sprinkler is on the ground. It ONLY works well wide open, spraying full 180' arc or half open, a 90' arc if using next to a straight line but NOT for smaller areas using a 30-45' arc. WE always read review before making a purchase $50+, who knew that a sprinkler was so useless September 17, 2016
