Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Design flaw: hose fitting breaks easily I purchased a couple of Melnor sprinklers (SKU 465-858) in June for personal use with the new lawn at our home in Wayland. The price was low and we did not need anything fancy – so I thought this was a good bet. They worked just fine, until both broke within days of each other, in exactly the same place. Photos are attached showing both broken sprinklers, along with a close-up of the fractured inlet tube. There is a groove in the black plastic tube behind the hose fitting – that creates a thin spot that is prone to stress fracture. This appears to be a design defect. The more expensive Melnor sprinklers have a different tube and hose fitting design. This issue appears to be limited to the two least expensive models. To Home Depot's credit, they stood behind the product and offered a full 'store credit' refund. (I did not have the original receipt.) I purchased two Melnor "3900 sq. ft. Deluxe Turbo Oscillating Sprinklers" (SKU 172-849) to replace the broken ones -- and this version works great. It is much easier to adjust and the hose connection appears to be stronger. This is a good example of 'pay a little more for a better product." I sent a letter to Home Depot about this problem. Hopefully they will work with Melnor to resolve this problem. August 7, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by I'm using it now as a toy for the grandkids because ... It features an adjustment that supposedly adjusts the water spread from a full front-to-back 180 degrees or vertical-to-front or vertical-to-back. 'Supposedly' ... because it really doesn't. The adjustments are clumsy and not accurate and the spread is never the same twice. If you want precision then this isn't for you. I also have a hard time seeing this sprinkler doing 3200 square feet ... maybe 2500 of reliable soaking and a few raindrops of water beyond that. As you can imagine, I haven't used it much ... and that's a good thing, because it doesn't 'feel' that it will hold up too long --- a bit flimsy. August 19, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Complete piece of garbage - it's going back The quality of this sprinkler is very poor. For one, the dial keeps moving on its own. Also, the sprinkler will not do a "full" pattern no matter where the dial is set - best I can get is about 3/4 and then the dial moves on its own. Needless to say, I'm not pleased and it's going back. August 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great value! I have a newly seeded lawn. We purchased nearly a dozen different kinds of sprinklers to help us keep the ground moist but not soggy & this one does the best job out of them all. I spent up to $30 for some of the other models & they puddle up really quick & some even broke after the 1st day - but this one is still going! Ive definitely learned my lesson & just going to buy more of these instead of wasting my money on the more expensive ones! June 8, 2010
