Answer:
No disrespect, but you may wish to consider buying a new nozzle, as the whole unit is rather inexpensive, and if you have owned your nozzle for several years, it is likely near the end of its natural life expectancy anyway. Kind of like fixing a small appliance these days -- the cost and inconvenience of repairing an inexpensive product is often not worth it.

I don't see a prop 65 warning, so I think it should be lead-free.

Answer:
The Melnor 227-357 nozzle does not carry a prop 65 warning. There is no brass (which contains a small amount of lead) in the material makeup.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 43 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Don't Expect Much This nozzle is only marginally better than the less-expensive all plastic version, or simply holding your thumb over the end of the garden hose. The spray pattern adjustment is poor, when adjusted to a fine spray it cast a very wide coverage area (see picture), when adjusted to a heavy spray, it still sprayed water over a rather wide range, but would not provide a forceful concentrated stream of water (see picture). I look at this as a "throw-away" type of product, inexpensive enough to simply discard when it leaks or falls apart. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. March 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by They R Junk So I've purchased several of the Melnor sprayers and every one has failed after a very short time of service, the last one I purchased 3/7/16 and used it several times and it failed in 2 days, what fails is the plastic trigger where it pulls the shaft out to release the water, the plastic is so thin that after a few pulls it opens up and slips past the shaft, so what ive been doing is installing a screw to make it work! you would think, something so simple as a garden hose water sprayer, would be 1 of the last things anyone would write a review about> March 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sturdy hose nozzle Sturdy hose nozzle, and easy to turn it on with the front trigger. The adjustable tip nozzle is user friendly though the adjustment can be tedious when done with wet hands. I like its adjustable width, force, and reach. The grip is comfortable to hold and adjustable, plus it can be locked open. The nozzle screws onto the hose securely and has a washer to eliminate any leaking, nor does it leak from the head. May 16, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Get what you pay for... Inexpensive but effective. It does adjust the stream of water and can be locked in place. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the other nozzles but gets the job done. No problem with leakage. Great buy for the money. May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by lightweight and painfree This is a simple, but effective sprayer. I only gave it 4 stars because it doesn't do well on the hard stream, I have other things that work better. That being said, it does awesome on the lighter sprays to use for flowers and trees, it has a great distance on fuller sprays and it is delicate enough of a spray that it doesn't spray the dirt everywhere. I have arthritic thumbs (awesome) and this was easy to use because you can prop it to many flow speeds, it is a great lightweight sprayer, as long as you don't need it to hard spray things off. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple design Nothing complicated here, it's a nozzle. Simple, clean design that doesn't leak and is adjustable while shooting water out of it. Just pull the trigger and twist the brass end to adjust the spray from stream to wide spray. Not like some where you have to twist the entire mess to make an adjustment This one is simple just he way I like it. Standard adjustable trigger lock as well. September 22, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DON'T BUY! I purchasd this nozzle not even a week ago at my local store because the price was right. I washed my truck and accidentally dropped the nozzle on my concrete driveway and the handle broke. Wasn't even worth going back to the store. Poor handle quality. April 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Simple but functional. After breaking 2 sprayer nozzles I decided to go with a simplier model and it works great. I will see how it holds up in the long term but for now it is great. I can ajust the stream to create the strength of stream I need whether it is to water my flower boxes or if I'm cleaning off the deck area, this nozzle is meeting my needs and seems to be well built. I'm pretty happy with it and would buy it again if I need another one. April 13, 2016
