Answer:
No disrespect, but you may wish to consider buying a new nozzle, as the whole unit is rather inexpensive, and if you have owned your nozzle for several years, it is likely near the end of its natural life expectancy anyway. Kind of like fixing a small appliance these days -- the cost and inconvenience of repairing an inexpensive product is often not worth it.

I don't see a prop 65 warning, so I think it should be lead-free.

Answer:
The Melnor 227-357 nozzle does not carry a prop 65 warning. There is no brass (which contains a small amount of lead) in the material makeup.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Simple and effective For things like water hose nozzles, I love design simplicity. You don't want some overly complicated nozzle that's just going to break on you when you go to use it. This is a super simple design, but it gets the job done. This is a quality unit as well, no plastic internals here. This nozzle is all brass inside and is going to last you a good, long time. My only complaint is that the rear pressure adjustment doesn't seem to work very well. It could be a finer adjustment than the just on/off it seems to be. But the fact is that you can adjust the pressure pretty well with the trigger itself. It shot a good 30ft and the pattern adjustment on the front works fantastic. I like it! August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Light wieght adjustable nozzle This is a good nozzle with a metal body and a brass valve. The spray is easy to adjust and the brass nozzle turns smoothly. The handle can be locked open and there is a brass adjustment nut on the back. This has a good spray and doesn't leak. It feels light weight and has a good grip. This is a good nozzle to use as a wash down hose or to water plants. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice spray and no leaks I got a new Scotts garden hose and did not have a new nozzle so I got this and I am so glad I did. It is a nice nozzle for around the house jobs. Washing your car, watering flowers and plants even cleaning out your gutters. It is a rear trigger and it is not real hard to press. If you are washing your car or hosing down anything where you have to hold the handle for any length of time just flip down the lever and it will hold the handle down. That saves on your hand and is a nice feature. I have usually bought the nozzles that you twist on and off so thought I would try this one and I am sure glad I did. Just let up off the handle on this one instead of having to twist or turn the nozzle on the other types. Just a feature that is more convenient to me since I have arthritis in my hands. It nozzle is a Melnor brand. It has different spray adjustments. Just turn the black rubber band at the end of the nozzle for what ever spray you like. From a wide spray to a stream. Very easy to adjust. The nozzle is made of hard plastic for the trigger and lined in metal for a sturdy made nozzle. The tip where the water comes out is made of brass and also the back of the nozzle is brass. Nice well made threads inside where you connect it to your water hose. It screwed on easy with no problems. Overall it is a nice well made nozzle that will last a long time with the proper use. Fits your hose nice with no leaks so far. I hate when the nozzle springs a leak and you water goes spewing all over you and you have to lean way out to keep from getting wet when using the water hose. This nozzle has nice deep metal threads so it goes on snug and helps prevents leakage. So if you need a nice water hose nozzle well made that does the job it is intended to do this would be on my list of one of the ones to get. June 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple and effective After going through multiple hose nozzles with all kinds of fancy features to spray, mist, soak, narrow stream, wide stream, etc. I'm back to a basic trigger nozzle. In my experience, those multi-spray nozzles never last more than a summer or two and I rarely use any spray patterns outside the norm. This nozzle is basic, but solid, allows a simple adjustment from a tight jet to a mist/spray, and while I haven't had it too long, it reminds me of the style I grew up with that lasted for my entire childhood. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Don't Expect Much This nozzle is only marginally better than the less-expensive all plastic version, or simply holding your thumb over the end of the garden hose. The spray pattern adjustment is poor, when adjusted to a fine spray it cast a very wide coverage area (see picture), when adjusted to a heavy spray, it still sprayed water over a rather wide range, but would not provide a forceful concentrated stream of water (see picture). I look at this as a "throw-away" type of product, inexpensive enough to simply discard when it leaks or falls apart. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. March 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by They R Junk So I've purchased several of the Melnor sprayers and every one has failed after a very short time of service, the last one I purchased 3/7/16 and used it several times and it failed in 2 days, what fails is the plastic trigger where it pulls the shaft out to release the water, the plastic is so thin that after a few pulls it opens up and slips past the shaft, so what ive been doing is installing a screw to make it work! you would think, something so simple as a garden hose water sprayer, would be 1 of the last things anyone would write a review about> March 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Two of these broke......I'm done. The handle breaks off when the trigger is squeezed. Spend a few bucks more. Not sure why home depot carries this item. Not reliable and wasted a lot of my time. September 13, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Internal spring breaks easily The internal spring is made of low grade steel (not copper)... rusts and breaks after some use. September 7, 2016
