Answer:
Two ways to adjust distance:
1. Use a flow restriction like an in-line shut off valve partially open. If you restrict too much, the impulse action will not work. It needs enough mass flow of water to operate.
2. There will be either a needle screw or a diffuser tab that adjusts into the water stream near the end of the pulse arm. As you adjust that screw into the stream or adjust the tab, the spray Read More

There are two adjustments on the pulsating sprinkler head that will determine distance.
2. At the front of the sprinkler head, where the water sprays out, there is a diffuser pin (plastic Heads) or screw (metal heads). When this screw is in the out position, the water sprays in a fine stream(for watering further from the unit). By screwing it in, the tip enters the stream of water, this diffuses the Read More

By screwing it in, the tip enters the stream of water, this diffuses the spray pattern into a mist for watering closer to the unit itself.
3. Another adjustment to the distance the water sprays is the deflector shield. When the shield is all the way up, the shield will be out of the spray. This allows for maximum distance. When the deflector shield is moved into the spray of the water, the water hits the shield, causing the water to be directed back towards the ground. This will shorten the distance the water sprays. To adjust the deflector shield on plastic pulsator heads you can use the dial on the top of the head to move the shield into or out of the water stream. On metal pulsator heads simply lift or depress the deflector shield into or out of the water stream Read Less

I am Looking for using just one that will spray out about 30 ft and 50 ft wide of a lawn> 1500 sq ft.

If i go by what the specs say ( 85 sq ft)? I will need to buy 10 of them!

I have a Wand type that does the job with a Manual 2 hr timer ... puts 1/2" water down
and has been enough once a week during No rain periods for a week. getting at least that 1/2 " amt...

Answer:
Specs are completely wrong. With sufficient pressure, the unit will spray 42 foot radius circle which will cover 5,500 s.f. When you set it up, try to measure how far it sprays. Then just use the following formula to determine square footage covered:
For example, if you're getting 30 foot spray:
30 x 30 x 3 = 2700 s.f. (approximation) This is the area of a circle which is Pi x radius squared.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 55 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Adequate The pulsating sprinkler is solid, well made, and works just fine. The spike is lightweight and skinny. Therefore, it doesn't make for a very good anchor. The sprinkler has a tendency to move and wiggle. I have to adjust the hose to help keep the sprinkler in place. It gets the job done, I guess. July 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works fantastic!! This sprinkler works wonderfully and provides a complete and total coverage of the area I set it to water. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Solid product. Easy to adjust. Great buy for$8 !!! July 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by easy to break The step spike is very easy to brake, do not try it. July 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by toddler tuff sprinkler works great. my 2 year old was playing in the sprinkler then he decided to see how it worked. it survived a toddler attack and is still working just fine. June 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality Waste of money. It doesn't dispense water very well. No instructions if there is an option for better coverage. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great sprinkler Solid all metal design, easily adjustable spray area. These are all I can remember my parents using when I was a kid and the design hasn't changed much. This is a if it ain't broke don't fix it sort of product. April 5, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed PRO: Easy set-up. Easy configuration for different spray patterns. CON: Weak, fragile, soft-metal base mounting spike broke easily with just a token sideways effort. August 25, 2015
