I am not sure about this, but I would expect that the answer is yes. LEDs usually are dimmable, and compact flourescents usually are not. But I can't say for sure.

A 150 watt halogen produces 2700 lumens. At 900 lumen output, this LED is a dimmer replacement.

I did the same search, and the answer that I came up with was NO. You just can't get enough LED power in that small a size. I ended up reworking my wall sconces to replace the 78mm halogen fixture with a 118mm halogen fixture. You can find these fixtures online.

Answer:
In reviewing our specifications, we do not indicate that the bulb is 3" in length on Home Depot.com. The 13159 bulb is a direct replacement for a 150W halogen and is currently the closest replacement that we offer for the 200W quartz lamp.

Exact dimensions of the bulb

I have a ceiling fixture and it has exactly 1/2" clearance between the centerline of the existing halogen bulb and the fixture. So I need to know the depth of the LED bulb - from the centerline of the socket to the top (non-lighted) side of the bulb to see if it will fit.

Thanks

Answer:
The answer to the question is not correct. The bulb measures about 1-1/4" from front to back (lighted side to back of bulb). The electrical contacts are spaced about 1/4" from the back of the bulb, so 1/2" clearance between the contacts and the back plate of the fixture will give adequate clearance.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice even warm light, fit easily in hanging light fixture Just got this plugged into our hanging lamp in the kitchen and it works really well. We had a 100W halogen R7 and replaced it with this 150W equivalent. The light is very nice and even and not harsh. I was concerned it might not fit the fixture, but the 1/4" of clearance is not a problem. I've gone through at least 5 halogen bulbs with this fixture since it's used a lot in the kitchen and gets frequently turned on and off. The LED should save a lot of energy and stand up much better to the repeated switching. Hopefully, this bulb will stand the test of time, but so far so good. The pictures were taken at night with no flash, so the only light is from this bulb. December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great, Long-Lasting LED replacement for Quartz Halogen Bulb I bought this bulb to replace the 300 Watt halogen bulb in the motion detector light on the back of my house. I got tired of dragging the extension ladder out every 6 - 12 months to replace that bulb. In contrast, this bulb should last for years! No, it's not quite as bright as the 300 Watt bulb I replaced with it. But then again, it's not rated at 300 Watts. And, it is still plenty bright enough! If you're looking for a good quality, long lasting, LED replacement for a quartz halogen bulb, this is it! September 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good This light seems to work very well. Time will tell of the longevity, energy use reduction is very substantial. Will most likely purchase more. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product I replaced a 100w halogen lamp with this bulb. I was concerned about the relatively low lumen output of the LED bulb, but it really surprised me - much brighter than the original 100W. So I do not know for sure how it compares to a 150W, but I would guess very favorably. I was impressed enough that I ordered and just finished installing a second one. Same experience - very bright. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The right LED bulb for reading lamp replacement I had two reading light sconces in each of the four bedrooms in my house. They were powered by 150W halogen lamps that burned very brightly and very hot. I did not like the huge energy use or the heat, which actually put small, and worrisome, scorch marks on the wall. To get nearly the same light output, I had to rework the sconces to replace the 78mm halogen bar fixture with a 118mm bar fixture. I was worried about getting enough light, as the halogens were rated at >2000 lumens, and these LED bulbs are rated around 900 lumens. They have worked out great, however. While the lumens are only half the value, the light is aimed in one direction, and it is plenty for reading from 6 ft. away. And the LEDs do not get as searingly hot as the halogens. All for 14W per bulb, instead of 150W. I am very happy with the results. August 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Halogen replacement I bought this bulb to replace a 150W halogen bulb in the hallway in the entrance of the house. The amount of light generated by this bulb is comparable, but all the LEDs are pointed in the same direction. The light fixture in my house is lowered relative to the ceiling, so the light from the halogen bulb would flood the whole environment and do a much better job of illuminating the area. It doesn't bother me much, especially when you take into account the fact that it uses a tenth of the energy. If the company produced a different version of this light bulb, capable of better distributing the light, or even mounted some LEDs in the back side, it would serve certain applications much better. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wow, replacing 150 watts with 14! Wouldn't have believed these would be as good as the halogens they are replacing unless I tried, which I did, and they are! Color and brightness as if we are still using the T-whatever halogens! August 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LED Replacement for 150W Halogen Bulb I have only had this bulb installed for 10 days so I can't comment on the longevity of this product. I can however tell you that the brightness is comparable with the 150W halogen while using only 14 watts. I have it installed on a carport and it's on from dusk to dawn, the halogens burn out in about 2 to 3 months. It fit perfectly in the fixture (similar to a work light) and puts off very little heat compared to the halogen. I will be installing 20 more after evaluating for a few more months. November 4, 2014
