Customer Questions & Answers

Is this tile suitable for a bathroom floor?

The site says it is suitable for floor or wall application but, in the comments, everyone talks about how thin it is / not suitable for floor. I'd love to use this on my bathroom floor with white subway on the walls but am reluctant to buy w/o confirmation that it's floor-suitable.

i dont think its that thin.i also dont think there is anything that will be in your bathroom that weighs over 250lbs. if you have the correct cement board under it then you should be fine.

is there still not a trim option for the lantern tile ?

what about this one ? Metro Glossy White 1-3/4 in. x 3-3/4 in. Porcelain Bullnose Floor and Wall Trim Tile Model # FXLMGWBN- are the lantern tiles in white the same finish as the metro glossy subway tiles ? thanks so much !
Asked by: Anonymous
Not the same finish, they are the same finish as glossy porcelain tiles, like the white square tiles that older kitchens had. The trim is very, very hard to match. The color is always off. We ended up going with a total contrast, bronze finish rope trim. Looks pretty, but do be aware of the difficulty finding trim pieces before ordering. This became the hardest part of our whole kitchen remodel.

I ordered the merola lantern tile, but am having trouble finding the trim to match the color. I want some kind of pencil trim & also need a 3/4 round.

Asked by: Anonymous
We just finished our kitchen , ended up using a contrast trim, in rubbed bronze rope pattern. Looks really pretty if that matches your style. Never could find the matching trim pieces, every color was off, too bright white or too creamy colored. Regardless, the tiles look amazing in the kitchen, absolutely beautiful.

My time installer told me to get 30 12-1/2 x 12-1/2" pieces, how many cases would that be?

Asked by: Anonymous
Phyllis, This product comes 10 sheets per case, so you would need three cases for a total of 30. Hope that helps!

Cutting Lantern Tiles

Obviously these tiles have to be cut for straight edges. I prefer to use a snap-cut tile cutter - will it work well on these odd shaped tiles?
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Betsy, For best results, we recommend a wet tile saw to cut these porcelain mosaic tiles. You'll get cleaner cuts and fewer chips this way. You may find that the snap-cut tile cutter works, but I would suggest testing it out on a few tile pieces before you begin a large project. Hope that helps!

Is this tile a stark white or a soft ivory/white?

Asked by: Anonymous
It's stark white... I purchased it to match a stark white quartz and it matches.

anyone have a white paint they suggest that matches this tile well?

i need to pick a white paint ASAP for my kitchen cabinets. we purchased this tile as our backsplash, but are having issues matching it.
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Marcia, I don't have any exact paint recommendations for you, but many Home Depots are able to color-match paint. Could you bring a piece of the tile to your local store and have them match the paint to your tile sample? Hope that helps!

Customer Reviews

Lantern 12-1/2 in. x 12-1/2 in. x 5 mm White Porcelain Mesh-Mounted Mosaic Tile (11 sq. ft. /case)-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elegant yet Simple I liked this tile for it's shape and color. I wanted a backsplash that didn't compete with my swirly granite but made a statement too. Picking white (my wall cabinets are white also) helped with the noncompeting and picking this elegant shape helped to still give the backsplash character and interest. I love it! My husband nor I installed it but we had a professional do it. He did say it was a little more complicated than he thought it would be because of the shape but he did an excellent job (just think it was more time consuming than he thought). It came packaged VERY safely and none of them were broke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy! I love this tile. it was defiantly a little more time consuming to install rather than a normal square or rectangle tile but well worth it. i almost went with subway tile but them found this online and was sold it is a great value and gives your home a splash of simple elegance! only other con would be that there are no really good edge pieces to use for this tile but we were able to use the rope tile from home depot

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely STUNNING!!!! So happy I purchased these tiles for my backsplash! I was updating my 1970s kitchen by painting the cabinets, replacing the countertop, mimicking a farmhouse sink, and then installing a backsplash. These tiles were a perfect way to add some luxury and I get endless compliments on them. We used white grout and ogee wood trim from HD's lumber department instead of tile trim. Just painted it with white cabinet paint and it looks amazing. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Different! I saw similar tiles in a very high end store, but knew I couldn't afford them. Did a little poking around online and found these through Home Depot. Although not the same as the high end, beveled tiles, these are beautiful just the same and give me the same look for much less. Friends and family have said the tiles remind them of a 1920s French cottage. My handyman is thrilled because although awkward to cut, they're easy to cut through due to the thinness of the tile. I can't wait until it's finished! I would NOT recommend these for a floor. They're way too thin and may crack if something is dropped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this tile i love this tile and i see that alot of people had a hard time finding trim pieces to match. i found that the Bright Snow White collection at Home Depot matches it great. I'm getting the rope trim and the BSW 2x4 tile to match it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful tile! I have been trying to get this tile for months. It's exactly what I imagined it to be based on previous customer reviews. Yes, it is stunning, but yes, it is thin. It is perfect wall tile. As a designer, I would never recommend this as a floor tile. That being said I am very happy with my purchase save this: Every time I came to look for the tile at this site, it was listed as 'Currently Unavailable'. Note to HD online shoppers, the invoice data between the web inventory and the warehouse inventory are completely separate. This makes no sense to me! Luckily, I always follow up and called the helpful tele-staff to inquire about the next shipping dates from the manufacturer. Not only did they give that info to me, one gentleman explained to me about the differences in inventory. At HD they set aside some for web, some for store, and an even smaller batch for call-in orders only. None of these are listed in a main database. It is treated like 3 individual companies. This info helped me get my order placed before the website had even been updated! I just kept calling back, knowing that the call-in inventory would be updated before the web. If you are trying to get your hands on a specific item, or MORE of a specific item- do your legwork and call, email, and call again! It is frustrating but WORTH it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful accent with white subway tiles We used this as an accent tile inset in shower niches. The rest of the shower is white subway tile and we used with a light grey grout. The result is beautiful, it adds a unique detail to an otherwise neutral/white shower. The tile quality is great and it was relatively easy to install (except where we had to cut very specific pieces for corners, but that's to be expected). I would definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great bang for your buck! I bought this for my kitchen backsplash and LOVE it! I saw a similar backsplash in a magazine for a $100k kitchen remodel, fell in love with it, and was elated to find this at such a good price. I was worried there would be no shine to it, but it does have a good glossy finish (similar to that of a subway tile).
