Customer Questions & Answers

What color grout looks good with this tile?

My mortar was white. Some places mortar squeezed out since tiles are thing. I wiped them off. Those places where the white mortar are like a grout, the white tiles looked washed out, so I am thinking that white grout ( snow white in this case) may look washed out too. What have people used and what do you guys recommend? I do know that grout has different shine than mortar. Thanks,

I used a non sanded charcoal grout, figuring the darkest color would accent the best. When it dried, it appeared more as a gray, like the ash color on charcoal bricketts when they are burning. Even that was a great contrast.

Matte or Shiny white?

In the description it's listed as "Matte white and black" but in the specifications this is listed as a glazed tile. Are the white tiles glazed or unglazed? Thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
It is porcelain tile and has kind of a gloss look, but doesn't overwhelm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific tile This tile was a perfect choice for our downstairs guest bathroom in our 1902 house. The look was exactly what we wanted, and the gray grout gives just the right amount of contrast without being washed out (white grout) or too busy (black grout). The tile was relatively easy to work with - mosaic tile is more fussy than most, but this was no worse than any other, and the finished results were just what we wanted. We had the product shipped directly to the store for pick-up, and that worked without a hitch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful tile, but some issues The floor looks wonderful but we did have some challenges. Most of the mesh mounted mosaic tiles had broken or chipped hexes. We could replace the individual hexes from other tiles or scrap, but still a pain. It was more challenging to install than other types of tile because it didn't work well with our tile saw and we needed to use the tile nippers to cut each hex individually. Also, it was a challenge to keep the mesh straight so we didn't wind up with a wavy pattern. Still, it is attractive enough that we will do another floor with this tile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great vintage look This is exactly what I was looking for! We just remodeled our bathroom in our home that was built in 1923 and this tile is perfect! Our contractor did say it was a little difficult to work with, but it's the vintage look I was going for! He used unsanded grout.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks even better installed Installed in a small bathroom. I wanted a touch of accent in an otherwise mainly white tiled room. The flex sheet of small tiles makes working around things so easy. Going with black grout (on the floor) - can't wait for the finished result

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this tile! I did not do the install, but it's my understanding that hex tile isn't the easiest to install because of all the pieces, even though they come in sections. That said, the sections held together very well, and nothing was broken. I was able to return the extra case that I bought just in case. I love the look of this tile! I wasn't sure if I wanted the matte finish or glossy. I ended up choosing matte because I heard glossy can be slippery when wet. Not sure if that's true, but I don't regret the matte finish -- it looks really nice!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great, pain to install An associate at the store recommended we use a 1/4" square-notched trowel. This was a big mistake, resulting in too much thinset oozing up between the tiles. Cleaning out the excess thinset before it hardened, along with the need to cut all the tiles along the outside edges of the section, slowed down the installation so much that the thinset started to dry out before we could finish installing the tiles. For the last section, we used a 3/16” x 5/32” v-notched trowel with pre-mixed thinset. Installation went much easier.
