What edges on this Pencil Trim are not finished in the glossy white? The top/bottom edges or the end (side) edges?

2 reviewers mentioned that the edges are not finished in the glossy white color on this pencil tile. Since I was thinking of using it to edge shower niches, I need to know what sides are unfinished. If the ends (looking at the tile sitting horizontally- would be the right & left ends) are unfinished, a person could miter-cut them to avoid the lack of the glossy white color...but it the top & bottom edges (looking at the tile sitting horizontally) are unfinished, then I'm not sure how a person could use them to trim out the outside area around a niche (like a picture frame). Any advice?

Answer:
Good afternoon Retro Mom,
The Moldura Pencil Trim does not have finished edges on any of the four sides. Typically, a tile of this fashion would be used as a break in-between field tiles, not as edging. We would suggest using a Bullnose piece for your concave edges. We offer a variety of Bullnose pieces that might better suit your needs.
Simply search “Merola Bullnose” on HomeDepot.com and you’ll see the different options we offer.
Moreover, your shower niche may not require the use of a bullnose or trim piece to end up having a well put together, finished look. Beaded silicone or grout can do well enough to bring your finish your corners and still result in an aesthetically pleasing design.

I've attached a photo below showing the profile of this product next to a ruler. At its max depth, it protrudes a half-inch.

Our Santorini collection http://thd.co/1p80rcj is another series that has very bright whites, so that may be an option you want to explore. You cannot order samples of the trim pieces, so we encourage buying a single trim piece of all items you are considering to match to the sample or purchased Park Slope to see what you feel matches best, being as coordination is a matter of personal preference. Can these be used as an accent line between floor tiles ?

The description specifies "wall only". I wanted to make a square of (9) 24"x24" gray tiles (6'x6'), then put a 1" white line of these tiles around that gray square and finish to the wall with more of the gray.
Will these tiles work in that application ?

Answer:
Thanks for reaching out! We do not recommend using this tile in a floor application, as the glaze is not rated for floor use. Additionally, this tile is rounded- meaning it would be raised above the rest of the tile and could pose a potential tripping hazard.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't match in store subway tile color didn't match the in store subway tile so will need to return. April 7, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice less expensive option, BUT... The good: I wanted to do a half-round border in my shower, and I was amazed to find out how expensive liner tiles are. These were the cheapest option I could find after much searching. The estimated arrival date was 10 days out, I was extremely pleased when they were delivered the day after I ordered them, and they have the look I wanted. They are a very bright gloss white. Some people have complained about the color match, but since I am using them with matte white tiles from another source an exact match wasn't crucial. The not so good: I had to go through all the tiles and clean them to separate the good from the bad. Out of the 100 tiles I ordered, 34 were scratched or otherwise unacceptable. Several more were chipped on an end, but since a few were going to be cut anyway so I kept those ones. They were packed well, it did not seem like they were damaged in shipping, it seems like poor quality control during manufacturing and storage. Also, they vary in width, by a little over a 1/16th of an inch from the widest to the narrowest. ALSO, the arched profile is not always centered, so sometimes there is a bigger lip on one side. The variations are manageable, as long as the opposites are not placed side by side. So I also need to go through and classify and mark every tile and where it goes in the layout. Fortunately, I can just bring all the defective ones back to the Home Depot down the street. I reordered twice as many as I need to make sure I get enough usable ones to replace them. But then I can just return all those extra rejects too. So, while all this trouble is worth it to me to save $200 and have them look good, be prepared. If I had looked at one tile and come back after the contractor had installed them out of the box I would have been beyond furious. They are not installed yet, hoping there will be no further problems. November 12, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Unfinished Edges These tiles will require me to paint the top edges as they are unfinished at their edges. June 17, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by White did not match tile The trim tile white did not match the subway tile white from the same manufacturer May 6, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very simple and modern. We used this as trim tile and it turned out beautiful. The other reviewer was correct the edge of the tile is not white but the simple solution is to use white caulk after the installation is complete. Very happy with the result for a reasonable price. September 23, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by color does not match, not glazed for stand alone border The white pencil trim is not the same color as the Moldura "Chelsea Subway" tiles. The glaze on the tile does not cover the edge of the tile, so it cannot be used as a stand- alone border. September 13, 2011
