Customer Questions & Answers

Need non-slippery tiles

As a senior citizen, I cannot risk falling in the bathroom but do not often know from your website rather tile has any traction. Some of the reviews seem to indicate good traction while others say slippery - for the same tile. I would like to know in advance before placing an order.

Good morning Maggie, I understand your need for tiles with a high slip resistance. If you are looking at the Home Depot product page, you'll want to scroll down about halfway down the page, and look for a list of bullet points. The 7th bullet point should mention 'C.O.F. rating' which is a measure of the slipperiness of a tile, both wet and dry. This tile's bullet point reads 'C.O.F. greater than .50 is recommended for standard residential applications and is marginally skid resistant. Indoor use.' A lower number has less friction, traction and a slipperier surface. A tile with a C.O.F. value less than 0.60 is moderately skid resistant but doesn’t meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. ADA guidelines require a tile with a C.O.F. of .60 or greater. A higher number has more friction, traction and is less slippery. A tile with a C.O.F. value greater than .80 is highly skid resistant. Hopefully that will help you while browsing HomeDepot.com, but if you would like to give us a call to discuss options within our tile line, please do so at 800-963-7652. Thanks for your interest in Merola products!
