Answer:
No, that is not correct. There is no wood used in its construction. It is made entirely of welded metal tubing, along with components made from metal, plastic and rubber. It is very, very sturdy.

The question is: Is this product made of wood. The answer is no...it is not made of wood, it is of steel construction and well made. I've had mine for approximately 8 months and have used it around the house as well as painting the higher area on my garage. Folds up nicely, also, for ease of storage. Hope that helps!

The question is: What is the allowable platform height? From the ground to the highest level of the support tubing is approximately 6 feet. Now, having said that, I would not use/stand on this highest level. You will loose the benefit of the grab-safety handle and...you know the rest. Good luck and I hope this helps!

I NEED ONE MORE PLATFORM TO BE SAFE TO CLIMB UP AND DOWN. THE 3 PLATFORMS ARE SPACED TOO FAR APART NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE PLACED AND THEY SLIDE VERY EASY ON THE RAILINGS. WHERE CAN I GET ONE? OTHER MANUFACTURES SELL PLATFORMS THAT ARE TOO LONG AND THE PRICE FOR ONE IS NEARLY AS MUCH AS THE COST OF THIS UNIT. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Answer:
There are 3 platform sections. The narrow one is 3 3/4" tread, and the other 2 are about 9" treads. The narrow one needs to be kept on the first or second rung of the sides for stability of the unit. The other two can be used as either a pair for one wide platform, or on separate levels for a stair effect.

Customer Reviews

Job Site Series 6-3/8 ft. x 4 ft. x 2-1/2 ft. Scaffold 900 lb. Load Capacity is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for me as an artist and a woman. I initially came to homedepot.com to ask a question about getting additional platforms, yet ended up writing what amounted to a review because I love this device so much. Whenever people see me using it they marvel at how cool it is. I inevitably marvel back as if I invented the thing. -What I wrote- FOR POTENTIAL BUYERS: If anyone is looking at different portable models and can't decide, get this one!! ***JOBSITE SERIES 5’ (MODEL I-IMIS)*** I can't praise it enough. I use it in my art studio and it's small enough for me, as a woman, to not be cumbersome, but also wide enough to actually work on, particularly moving around while painting on an 8'x8' canvas. To compare: the 4' model wouldn't allow me to comfortably reach high enough for long periods and the 6' model was just too wide for my space. Also, very important, one of the biggest selling points of the I-IMIS model, is that the legs have small outriggers on the bottom for extra stability rather than the legs going straight down. I bought this after rather painfully falling off a 6' ladder when it tipped over and I very much appreciate knowing there's even more added safety than just a "safety bar," which I take off anyway to paint. I truly do love this scaffolding, so I hope the details of my specific use helps anyone looking that can't decide! FURTHER THOUGHTS: I noticed some people complaining about the dimensions. Home Depot describes this unit as "MetalTech Job Site Series 6-3/8 ft. x 4 ft. x 2-1/2 ft." While this is accurate, it is also misleading. The information on Metaltech's website is more instructive: Assembled dimensions (W X D X H): 50.5 X 31 X 76.5 IN. **WORKING HEIGHTS: 11.5 - 25 - 36.5 - 48 IN.** This means that you can install the shelving to step as high as 48 inches. The 6-3/8 ft. in Home Depot's description is including the height of the removable safety bar. (Just because: the maximum working height of the collapsible 4' version is 33 inches. The maximum working height of the collapsible 6' version is 73 inches.) Additionally, I wouldn't feel comfortable putting too much weight on the "tool shelf." It has a circular indentation clearly meant for a paint gallon, but anything as heavy as a full gallon of paint causes it to bend and buckle down a bit. I actually ended up cracking the plastic on mine because I tried to bend it back down to get it out of the way. It was useless to me. I do wish it came with more platform shelves. If I want to place both shelves on one tier to create maximum foot room, the distance between the lowest "step" shelf and the highest level is fairly awkward. More shelves would mean I could create a larger 2-shelf platform on the top tier and create another 2-shelf platform beneath to use as both another step as well as storage. The set-up as far as the main picture shows is basically like walking up shallow stairs. This is great if you wish to do something short and simple like hammer in a nail, but not that great if you plan on spending any extended amount of time on a higher level. Hopefully getting more shelves won't be too much of a hassle. -Lightweight enough for the smaller statured. -Very smooth wheels and maneuverability. -Easy to collapse and store. -Solid, sturdy construction. -I don't fear it tipping over in the slightest. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! After researching several scaffold models I chose this one, & am so pleased with it. I am using it to redo the walls in my home. I am a plus size woman & have no problem climbing up & down this scaffold and feel very secure while on it. It was super easy to assemble & is very maneuverable. The attached tray is great for holding my tools, paint, etc. I like that I can also use it as a work platform for my miter saw on later projects. Overall, money well spent.

I like the fact that this scaffold is small, it rolls, it folds, the wheels lock and unlock easily, it is easy to assemble and the load capacity is great. The distances between the steps are not close enough for my height and comfort level.. The steps could also be wider and fit more securely over the bars. Another security bar across the back would also make the scaffold feel more secure. The little tray on the side does not collapse well. Finally, in my opinion the assembly directions were not very good, so the fact that the assembly was so easy is a good thing. In many cases I like using the scaffold rather than my ladder. I feel good enough about it to consider buying again and possible recommending it.

Purchased this for use at home in order to more safely reach the tall window blinds and ceiling fixtures. It has been perfect for these tasks. Tall enough to reach without the awkwardness of a step ladder. It folds up easily when not in use and stores in very little space.

Overall assembly took less than 5 minutes with everything fitting together with no tools needed. Can't wait to use it. Scaffold is only 5' but with the safety rail is 6' tall.

Unfortunately, the box they use to ship it is totally inadequate to ship it damage free. One shelve was bent and the yellow tubing was scratched up. Not too worried about the scratches and they sent a new shelve immediately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STURDY AND EASY TO ASSEMBLE The scaffold came disassembled in a box. Took 15 minutes to assemble with no tools. Scaffold is sturdy and well made. I used the scaffold to paint a 10 foot ceiling and then disassembled for storage. Would recommend this product for home use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good price and sturdy! Really easy to assemble even for an older lady. The unit is sturdy and I love the size of the movable steps which are safe. The items tray is a super plus and the stabilizer bar at the top. You can't go wrong for the price.
