The laminate finish looks good except on the shelf edges where they are beveled and the laminate does not match - leave white lines. BIGGEST ISSUE: the back is four pieces which are "strapping taped" (like the kind used on boxes) together - the tape used is CLEAR. The 4 pieces therefore do not stay together and you get a big 'crack' down the middle of both sides of the bookcase. The material is wood, but I have other furniture (Sauder) with cardboard backs that look and function MUCH better. If you're going to fill all the shelves, this probably won't matter, but if you're going to put nick-nacks on some of the shelves, it will NOT look good. The construction was easy, but I glued the wood pegs into their holes for better long term life.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by cattwuman It's OK if it was cheaper
We had the bookcase sent to store for pickup. It was slightly damaged. The associates were EXTREMELY helpful in calling the .com site to get us a little discount. Brought it home and put it together. It looks nice enough but if you look closely you can see what appears to be little nail bumps along the fronts of the shelves. I still like it though.I know this seems contradictory to my ratings but If it were cheaper I would actually get another one to match. I like it but I don't think its worth the value.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MC22 Midas double wide 12 shelf cherry bookcase
Except for a damaged board discovered upon delivery, the bookcase is sturdy and stylish.
Perfect for displaying my collection of mechanical banks.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by StopNegativeAds A few cracks in the wood, but good product overall
Not difficult to assemble and instructions were clear and properly designed. We're happy with it overall. The problem was that the piece had some dents and cracks here and there. The box was undamaged, so the shelves were packed after the shelves got dented (quality control??). This means the builder is mishandling its own product before putting it in the box. back panel is too thin, which is a mismatch for the sturdiness on the rest of the piece.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Arbuckle Excellent bookcase but image with misleading color
I had already two and purchased two additional bookcases. These are great bookcases and they store a huge number of books. However, the color on the image on the website is much lighter than the reality. The real color is much darker while the two I already had have a much lighter color.
Think whether you want to install the fixed shelves in the middle. You are stuck then with the space between shelves. I decided not to, all my bookshelves are movable and this is much better for me.
Otherwise the quality of the product is very good and they really satisfy your needs if you have a lot of books and want to show them:-)

A friend and I just got finished assembling this bookcase and it took us about 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Most of the pieces were very heavy and well-made for not being solid wood and it went together well and tightly for the most part. It had a few very minor scratches/dings, but those will not be very obvious. The worst part, and the main reason for its only getting three stars from me, was the backing. This unit is four feet wide, so you would think they would send two backing pieces, one for each side. But they sent four pieces, two sets of two taped together with thin clear tape. Apparently we were not supposed to remove the tape, but we did. Even if we hadn't, arranging these four pieces on the back and getting them all in the right place before screwing them down would have still been very tedious. After the unit was together and up I went back and taped down the center line of each set of two, where the two pieces met in the middle. One side butted up nicely together, but on the other side there is a 1/8" to 1/4" gap in the middle since the pieces were not completely straight. Fortunately, this gap should not be very obvious once the shelves are filled with books. Also, these backing pieces were of extremely thin bendable wood - very cheap quality. The cherry color is extremely dark. All in all, the unit is heavy, sturdy, very attractive and I would recommend it.
