Customer Questions & Answers

I'm new to this and don't have much knowledge on CB radios..How do you get 30 mile range out of it?

Can you inform me what PA is? I'm trying to get CB radios in my Dumptrucks and machines.. So is there a personal channel or a unit that we can set on certain channel with minimum interference with clarity and great overall signal strength . Also can you amp up CB radios to get all around better clarity and strong signal I really don't need a full 39 miles, but 5-10 miles with good clarity and signal would be perfect.. Sorry to ask all these questions I'm just new to this and want the best unit for what I Ned and best advice on what to get. Thanks a bunch

Youm would be better off getting GMRS radios, they require an FCC license tho but aren't restricted like ham is and much better range and clarity than a CB.

45 years ago I had a Regency 4 channel and could get an easy 30 miles out of it hooked up to a window screen while I was working on the nuke plant in Cordoba Illinois.

Although, I can't say it will reach the 30 mile range without a more powerful input/output on the unit and a more powerful antenna also. I enjoy the fact it has a weather band included. This is very helpful when you are going a long distance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Radio This radio is a great buy. Being experienced in radio communications, as well as being a licensed ham operator, I can say this is a great radio for the money. Transmit audio quality is great, recieve audio quality is great. You get an ANL noise limiter which is effective without sacrificing receive quality. The radio has an RF gain control, which will reduce receive sensitivity in interference/noisy conditions. Recceive fidelity is excellent, which is very important to me. The radio has a 4-pin connector which may or may not be compatible with the standard "Cobra" style microphones. The stock microphone is an electret type, which differs from the Cobra style dynamic elements. I prefer electret microphones as they have better sensitivity.. IE are "hotter". This was a main reason for my purchase. I see no reason for the use of any micropgone other than the stock microphone. Use the radio as designed. The squelch conrol is a "hysterisis" type. Rare these days in a CB. With a lot of CB operators these days turning their carriers down, and watching their meters "swing" this type squelch helps by not "chopping out" someone's signal as their carrier rises and falls. It also help not triggering on sudden noise bursts. For someone not used to this type of squelch control, it can be confusing, as people could underadjust or overadjust the squelch. This is a Great feature of this radio. Transmit and receive ranges are right on where they should be. Mileage may vary by antenna type and noise levels on the band. The weather function works fine. People on other review sites have considered this a negative. You need to realize weather frequencies are in the 162 Mhz range, and CB is 27 Mhz. Obviuosly, the radio is maximized for performance on the frequencies it will transmit on. I had no difficulties in using the weather function. This radio has a nice modern look,, not the ancient look a lot of much more expensive radios have. This is a great FCC approved CB. buy it, install it, tune your antenna (SWR) and use it. Nothing more is needed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It does turn on I'm not sure how they were able to get 30 miles out of this radio. Unless of course, they were talking about it's receive capability. because i have one. And it is good for about 2 miles at optimum conditions. The price is way too high for the radio they are selling! It does turn on and it will transmit and receive. But it absolutely does not transmit 30 miles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good radio Transmit distance is all in the antenna. There is no magic radio. Super tuning is a farce. Midland is a good brand. This is an excellent price for this radio.
