Answer:
It depends on the amp hour rating of your battery. Buy an age battery online from Amazon and, with the appropriate solar panel, it will last through weeks of cloudy weather.

Answer:
Two batteries connected in parallel should give you more gate openings and closings. But one is enough to get the job done. When I installed my system I placed two batteries in the box and could not get the cover on. There wasn't sufficient room to fit the wires and fuse. So I just installed one battery. Works great!

Hello Santa Niclaus,
If you go with two batteries you can i increase your cycle time. Also, if you happen to have an overcast day, the extra battery will get you though the day.

How far away from gate can the solar panel be placed?

The gate location does not get enough direct sunlight. I would need to place the solar panel system about 100 feet from the gate. Would that work?

Answer:
It should work. Give it a try. What can you lose. Just make sure you splice the correct type of wire to it. Home Depot sells this type of wire which comes in two lengths 100 feet and 250 feet low voltage wire. Or you can call the Mighty Mule company 800-543-1236 and ask to be sure.

You don't need anything else, however if you connect the solar panel, I believe you must disconnect your other power source.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great buy A great product. Easy to install and set up. Don't know much about solar, but I think it's pretty expensive. April 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Peasy Installation The installation took about 20 Minutes including the 2X4 prep. I was surprised how easy it was. This was my first solar panel install. As far as the quality, durability and longevity of the panel....we'll just have to wait and see. It does look smart though. February 11, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Holes don't line up The holes for the two hole pipe clamps in the back of the panel don't line up with the straps. You have to open the strap and it is still not enough. Can't easily safely drill the holes bigger on the panel. Worked so far otherwise June 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great The product arrive on time easy insulation, works great April 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! so far so good! We got the 10 watt because in the winter we might not see the sun for awhile and we might be going in and out more than what a 5 watt could handle. It was easy to hook up and has been working great. We have actually gotten more open and close functions than what was stated in one day. September 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super Easy Installation This solar panel was bought to power a dual GTO/Mighty Mule gate opener. The installation couldn't have been easier. Everything you need is included. The panel charges the two batteries for the gate so well that we get far more cycles than the manufacturer states. June 8, 2009
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solar Panel I had the 5 watt and it did not keep the batteries charged. Since I installed the 10 watt it works perfectly and do not have any problems with the gate. November 14, 2010
