I purchased the 5 Watt panel to charge a deep cell 12 volt marine type battery that operates my Mighty Mule 200 gate opener. Even though it does not get direct sunlight all day because of a few pine trees, it keeps the battery around 12.3 volts with no problem. I installed a small led volt meter inside the battery box (Walmart), and I'm able to check the voltage anytime. You could mount the voltmeter on the gate post but I didn't get that fancy. Great panel for the gate opener!

Installed product. Gate worked fine until battery drained then nothing. Took forever to realize that the panel was shorted out. Wasted a full day. Purchased a 18watt panel for less money from Lowes. Worked great with the opener. The mighty mule panel is pricey and produces VERY little energy. Maximum wattage the system can accept is 30 watts. Why go with a 5 watt?
Cudos to home depot. Brought it into store and was refunded no questions asked.

This was very easy to install. Turns out that it only works to keep a battery charged... the MM gate won't let it charge a dead battery...

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bruce Good product but has limitations
I purchased the MM500 series product package. It seems to be a good fit for my application and has the right features. However, When it came to installation, I realized that the product designers had assumed that the control box will be situated tight next to the opener, and had allowed a limited amount of wire length. My application required the box to be further from the opener and I had to search in hardware stores to find a compatible cable (with 7 color coded wires) to splice to the wire provided by the manufacturer. I had great difficulty splicing seven wires and protecting the connection and burying it. As a result, my installation is not very reliable even though it is working. The product should come with a solution that would make it easier for the user to extend the primary opener cable as needed to support various installation scenarios.
