Answer:
slightly greater than 90 degrees is possible, I think I had mine set at about 110 degrees to start with, but went back to 90 due to clearances at the post due to hinge location.

Answer:
Greater than 90 degrees. Depends on the mounting position you choose for the brackets on the post. A lot of adjustability built in to this opener.

2 Questions. How far from the control box can the receiver be? How far of a run can the opener wire be from the control box?

The edge of my driveway is about 12' from the side of my house and my garage is behind my house. The dual gate will be across the driveway. I would like to mount the control box in my basement along the wall where the gate is with the receiver outside. I would also like to avoid cutting my driveway so I would like to run the master wire into the basement and the slave wire around the back of my house and then into my house to tie into the control box instead of cutting the driveway.

1. How far from the control box can the receiver be and still work correctly?

2. How far of a run can the slave opener wire handle (from slave opener to the control box) and still work correctly?

Answer:
The prewired control arm is only about 6ft long. The slave arm wire is longer but nothing like you need. You could possibley splice extra wire to the length you need. Remember, every connection is a possible problem.

You can get extra remotes. They are about $30-$40 dollars. They also sell packages that contain extra remotes, solar panels, magnetic openers, etc... Don't know about smart phone apps? Mine did not have anything available for that feature

Yes, check with MFR on prices.
Yes, but you need smartphone application to control low voltage devices. Make sure your safety equipment works properly FIRST (limit switches etc) so you don't cause a problem with gate moving onto a person or valuable object---car etc

Answer:
The FM502 can accommodate gates that are 18ft or up to 850lbs for each gate (one side). However, the longer the gate, the less leverage you have to move extremely heavy objects. If your gate is 18ft AND 850lbs for each side (1700lbs total), we do not recommend the FM502. Most gates fall well below this threshold, but if you do have questions, please contact the Mighty Mule Tech Support at 1-800-543-1236 Read More

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by SO FAR decent system for the price For a DYI system, you had better be a "high performing DYIer" because this system is far from easy to install! With that being said, it can be done with a lot of time and patience! It took one person who had installed one before and one "grunt" an entire day to install the system, the accessories, and program it. "Tuning Up" the accessories took a considerable amount of time and multiple Customer Support phone calls. In the beginning, the CS rep was not too enthralled with offering support. After much discussion back and forth, the relationship worked out to being OK. I would recommend this system. I would also recommend taking the time to "hard wire" any accessory that can be hard wired. Once all the "installation bugs" are worked out, this is a good system. I have only had the system a month so time will tell. I DID purchase the Extended Warranty offered through HD!!!! From my reading of reviews, it will come in handy, down the road!!! It wasn't cheap but I will be dealing HD directly when needing service. Not some No Name Co that doesn't give a flip about me or my problem!!! I tried to post a video of the prod working but the site kept kicking it. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Review of Mighty Mule 502 gate opener Good directions, great for do it your selfers. Only thing I regret is not having done it years ago August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A quality product with quirks I think if you have a perfect gate, I trust the product would work consistently. However, my gate is a wooden gate that is not perfect, so I am having consistency issues (as shown in my video). Some of these issues were the result of the gates touching slightly in the closed position since the wood grows and shrinks). I resolved this by setting the slave close stop with a slight gap (shown in picture). This took 5 tries to get the master gate to learn the correct position for some reason. But I have to note that the master gate will close 45% of the time with a gap larger than what is shown, 45% keep pushing against the slave gate (which always seems to close properly) until it actually pushes the gate outward, and 10% close as requested. I still don't quite understand why this is the case, but would love feedback if anyone has ideas. In my case, if the master gate pushes the other gate outwards, the gate opener will think it hit an obstruction when I open the gate, and often go into a fail mode. This means I have to go into the house from the front and reset the opener. For this reason, I still have to watch the gate close, and don't feel confident to just drive away until I've confirmed it is OK. My gate is probably at the minimum weight/length for the 502 series, because I assumed it would help the gate close faster, and last longer since it is doing less work. However, as shown in the video, it doesn't open very quickly at all. The product comes with everything you need except low voltage wire (conduit), and strain relief nut for it. I was disappointed to find that the product did not come the necessary and matching 3rd strain relief nut. Installation was not difficult, but it does take time. About 3-5 hours in my case including digging trenches for the slave gate wire, and cutting holes in the house for power. I have only had the product for 4 months, so I can't comment on the longevity. However, seems to still be working as new. The remotes seem to work from the street at end of my driveway the majority of the time. Sometimes it's hard for me to tell whether the gate is actually opening, I wonder if there is a strobe or siren I could buy? I gave the product 4 stars because it is a quality product and it does work, however the inconsistency and the slow speed I believe should not be something I should have to deal with at this price point. Problem is, I don't know if my gate or my install are causing the issues that I am seeing, so 4 stars seems fair. In the future, I would like to see solutions for triggering/getting notifications from the system with home automation. August 9, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by WORST OPENER EVER SWTICH THE OPENER IS CHEEP AND DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. ITS LIKE IT CAME OUT OF CERIAL BOX. IF YOU WANT A REAL OPENER GET AN APOLLO OR LIFTMASTER OPENER FROM A FENCE COMPANNY. THEY ARE 100X BETTER AND WILL LAST 30+ YEARS February 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good product, but alot of work to install properly bought the complete deluxe set including extra solar unit and gate latch; took my expert fence guy and his helper 8 hours to get it installed and fine tuned; mounted solar panel and unit housing box on separate free-standing posts for efficiency; a lot of work! opener works as advertised but had to add tension wires w/tighteners to both sides of fence to keep sensors in proper alignment and had to mount a small metal bracket in ground at the middle of the gates (where the old latch post hole pipe was) to create solid stop for slave gate so the gate latch would lock. again, a lot of work and a lot of money to get everything installed the right way. but it works like I need it to, at least for the past week I've had it. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best gate opener Cannot comment on installation as we had our gate installer do it; this is the second gate opener we have had; this one replaces one we bought in May 1997; so as you can see this product is excellent. January 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Absolutely the most aggravating thing I've ever owned! Following a pretty simple installation of the 350/352 the system ran pretty smoothly for about 3 months. After that connections start to fail, boards go down, water somehow gets in, or it just quits. After the initial install (over the last 3 years) I would estimate I've worked over 40 hours at the end of my driveway on the phone with their tech support. There is never the same issue twice, and you never get the same instruction twice. This thing is so aggravating I've just kept my drill, screwdrivers, voltage meter and manual in my truck for the last two years in anticipation of it quitting. Every nice day that I can handle going back out there I try again. $1300 for a cheap parts and poor design. Don't waste your money. March 14, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tough, strong and handy No more getting out of the car to open or close the gate. Smooth, quiet action closes gates at the click of a button. My brother in law has had his got 10 years without a let down. That kind of life service makes it a reasonable cost per year. July 7, 2015
