If all power sources fail for whatever reason, can the gate be opened manually without damage to the gate or opener? If so, is it secure? meaning other people won't be able to override the auto opener, correct?

Hello Teddy,
Thank you for taking the time to post your question. Yes, you can always manually open your gate opener at any time that you wish without damaging the gate opener or gate. To manually open your gate, turn the control box power switch off, remove the hairpin clip, clevis pin, and bushing from either the front or rear mounting point, then remove the opener from the mounts. To prevent any unwanted people removing your gate opener, substitute the clevis pin for a Pin Lock ( model # FM133). The pin locks can be purchased online at Home Depot.com or from select Home Depot stores. To see a diagram on how to manually open your gate opener, please refer to the "installation guide" on the FM502 product page. The installation guide is located under ''Info & Guides" on the FM502 product page on HomeDepot.com. Thank you, Read Less

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 46 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MIGHTY MULE DUEL GATE OPENER Everything from ordering to delivery turned out to be excellent and installation wasn't that complicate either. It opens and closes smoothly but with some noise a bit louder than expected. But my main concern is, how long it will last? Many previous owners complained about malfunctioning of operating arms or control board after 1 month thru 2 years usage. Only time can tell. My previous model was FAAC brand which worked fine for 5 years then developed a serious problem with the receiver unit, caused several parts replacement at $150 but finally ended up in trash can. I hope this new opener proves all the negative reviews incorrect. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great replacement for older Mule I still had all of my old mounts which easily adapted to the newer opener. My biggest challenge was getting the cable through the old conduit for my double gates. As for the product, the installation minus the conduit was easy to install and I am not an electrician or a trained installer. This said, due to running the wire, the install did take me about 10 hours. Also, one word of advice, read the directions then read them again carefully. I made one dumb two hour mistake that was simply not reading the directions. July 19, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by not easy or simple For all you DIYers out there, make sure you have the gate frame made in steal or iron. A wooden framed gate will not work. You can dress the metal frame up with wooden pickets to match your fence though... May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mighty Mule gate opener Best gate opener for the money, I installed it myself as usual and it went very easy. March 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replaced Mighty Mule openers destroyed by crazy ants. Since we were replacing Mighty Mules that were virtually destroyed by crazy ants, our mountings were already in place so this was very easy. The board had been changed so I had to relearn how to program it but it went quickly. We were even able to reprogram our older (and some much older) controllers so we have spares now. LOVE my Mighty Mules! March 1, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by WORKS GREAT Replaced an older model that stopped working, so it was easy to install. However the cable for the second gate opener was about five feet short and had to splice the cable, which is not recommended, was just long enough to reach the end of the conduit but not long enough to reach the control module.I installed a watertight box just above the ground to protect the splice from moisture. The receiver for the remote control has less range than the old model. other than that it works satisfactorily. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A claim that doesn't make sense The manufacture claim that you can use up to an 18' gate each side let's see 18' + 18' = 36' so why would the wire from the slave arm be about 22' long. I have two 10' gates and the wire on the new GTO FM 502 was not as long as the unit I am replacing which happens to be a GTO FM 502 I bought new about eight years ago so I had to splice the two together not really something you want to do I hope it last's. If you are going to try to save a little money by shorting the length of the wire in the slave arm please let the consumer know or give an option for a wire that is applicable to their application so they don't have to go through the frustration I did other than that the product works OK. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great I installed it myself and followed the manual to the letter and it seems to work perfect. June 28, 2016
