If the gap is not provided the floor could make noise when it rubs against the walls. Also, a good underlayment material needs to be put down beneath the flooring, between the boards and the sub flooring. The underlayment will also ensure there is no noise when the floor "floats". One other possible source of a squeaking noise could be the sub floor itself, it may have been making noise which was not as noticeable underneath the previous flooring especially if carpet is being replaced by wood flooring. If the sub flooring is squeaking it can be fixed by adding screws or glue before the wood flooring is placed on top of it. Read Less

I completed my installation yesterday and have zero "squeaking." I did have one or two "pops" that I assume were boards just fininishing the snap-together process. It has not occured again.

This is rather unusual. Could be a couple of things. Usually time will settle the wood in to its "comfortabe" spot and it will stop. It's possible that the wood plank is right up against the wall. If there is weakness in the floor or your underlayment is spongy the wood can scrape against the wall when stepped on. Or simply your subfloor was not sturdy to start with. Answer:
Noise in floating floors is most often related to movement due to improperly flattened subfloors. Subfloors should be flat to 3/16" per 8' radius.

High quality product....over 800 sq ft and not a single board we couldn't use. Solid construction, beautiful finish, precise fit....overall very well made. Variety of grains, colors and patterns in the hickory wood was more extensive than we expected, finished floor looks even better than we expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tarkett Wood Flooring Rocks This real wood is gorgeous and very well made. Probably one of the best engineered real wood floors I have seen and is easy to install as long as you respect how tightly the locking edges should be fitted in order for it to get a good "snap". The color varies from dark chocolate to very blond "maple" and the boxes are randomly packed with mostly long lengths to very mixed lengths of longs and various shorter lengths, so it is best to open a number of boxes at any time in order to keep the randomness of the colors and lengths. Very good quality, hardness & color - I highly recommend this product to anyone interested in real wood planking!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, reasonably priced This is the second floating wood floor I've installed. This product was a little bit harder to install than the previous one (thomasville), more pressure and care required to get the boards to click together. The finished installation looks great; seams are tight and the overall finish is very nice. Floor is very flat and relatively quiet when walked on. Very little warping on the boards and any warp disappeared when clicked in place. Highly recommend spending extra for the AirGuard 3-in-1 underlayment; makes the installation much quieter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great floor We combined a kitchen and living room into one great room, and used the Hickory flooring to tie it all together. This brand has plywood layers, which is good for kitchens. It was laid at an angle, which really gave the room interest. This was done this way because it's an older house and the rooms aren't square, and laying it at an angle hides that. My husband said it was easy to install, it's easy to clean, and I love all the variation. Make sure you open 3 or 4 boxes at once, because some boxes have all dark pieces and some all light pieces, and it helps to really mix it up. The color goes with everything..we have knotty alder cabinets, oak table, another hardwood maple floor, oak doors, it just goes with everything. There were no random lengths, so I'm not sure why it's advertised that way. I do think more random lengths would have helped make the floor look less....manufactured. We installed it over an existing 1950's wood floor, and a linoleum kitchen floor. We have dogs and kids and I haven't seen any big scratches. I had checked out flooring stores...too expensive. And yet this floor was better quality than most other mid priced floors. Free shipping is great, and definately order more than you think you will use. You can return unused boxes to the store, which is very helpful, especially if you use the Home Depot credit card. I am very happy with this floor.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to install, and looks great, but squeaks badly I'm positive I installed the flooring exactly per the manufacturers instructions including climate acclimation of the flooring, underlayment and expansion gap around the perimeter of the floor, but unfortunately every single board creaks and squeaks when walking across the floor. I've tried talcum powdering the joints, but actually the joints are snug so very little powder can enter the joints. Very disappointed that I received no response from the manufacturer when I contacted them to ask how to fix the problem. Will possibly pull it all up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little difficult to install but looks great This flooring has great color and having varying lengths helped with less waste. I ordered six boxes and some pieces in all the boxes were bowed which made it much harder to click together. The paper work said it was ok to use pieces as they were not manufacturing errors. Once you get several rows done and place weights on floor, the floor will look great. I ordered 10 percent extra but should have ordered 20. Waiting on another box as I was three boards short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely pleased The floor has only been down for a week or so, so it is hard to give 5 stars for quality and value, but if it holds up as it has, they would be 5 stars too. Installation was a breeze and this was my first floor, I am a novice DYI. I did find a kit at the other big box store that had a rubber block for knocking the boards into place, as well as spacers, and a bar with a lip for tight installations-couldnt have done the installation without these items. Looks incredible, LOVE the variations in colors, I pulled from multiple boxes as others have said. Purchased a table saw (Dewalt), already had a chop saw and jig saw. -These items are essential. Got a dewalt multi-tool for Christmas, that was a huge help with door frames and such. My kitchen floor was not level though, we are on a concrete slab, had to put two 50lb bags of level quik to get the floor a bit more level, probably could have used two more bags, but I was afraid of raising the floor too much for the D/W and Fridge-wanted to ensure they were able to come out of their respective cabinets. Highly recommened this MADE in USA product! Tried, Lowes, and Lumber Liq, so glad I went with HD!
