Needless to say the old floor and new patching will need to be sanded and refinished. What depth of sanding will be needed to remove the finish from the new product?

Answer:
UV-cured, aluminum oxide enhanced urethane factory finishes can be difficult to remove. It is recommended to consult a professional sand/refinish technician.

I have a top stair situation where the standard bullnose option will not work.
Looks like im going to have to create my own custom piece. I would only need
one 8ft or 2 - 6ft pieces.
As I would have to modify pieces - what type of finish would I use to match existing finish ?

What is the real difference between the Millstead Vintage Maple Natural and Millstead Maple Natural?

I'm trying to compare the two products, but they unfortunately do not carry a sample of the Millstead Maple Natural here in Alaska. I am curious as the true differences between these products. Is there a difference in color? Grade? Other? It looks like there is difference in their THD rating, but both apprear to have the same Janka rating. Very confusing.

Answer:
Both products are identical. The PF6360 is the model number used for special orders nationally. The PF9361 is the model number used for markets where the product is sold as an in-stock item.

Customer Reviews

Vintage Maple Natural 3/4 in. Thick x 3-1/4 in. Wide x Random Length Solid Hardwood Flooring (20 sq. ft. case) is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with it overall, nice finish, tounge and groove was well cut Arrived in better condition than I would have expected. Only a few pieces were damaged and even those were fine when used as an end piece. Only complaint was that some random pieces were considerably darker than the rest. Its the nature of Maple but I would have hoped they would filter them out at the factory because they were so far off from the rest it just wouldn't look right. This represented maybe 2% of the total product so I still give it 5 stars. Pieces were straight and all the millwork was well done.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would not use! We received the wood and let it acclimate for almost six weeks. I ordered extra material just to be safe! Way too high of a percentage of short pieces is my first complaint. My installer who is VERY GOOD said; "this was the third worst wood floor he had ever installed!" The second complaint is that a good portion of the material was a different thickness and could not be used. The overall quality in my opinion from this manufacturer is not good and I would not recommend this product to anyone! By they way, this is my first negative review and just about anything so that should tell you how poorly I rate the material. I suggest trying another manufacturer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 4 months later I wrote an earlier review in May of 2015 - I cannot find out how to edit the original review so here is an update! My new photographs show the fading and changing of colors over a 5 month period. Rugs and a bed frame blocked the sunlight and look at the difference in color on the floorboards!!!! YOU need to be aware of this fade factor. The floor still looks beautiful and I am hoping by removing the rugs and shifting the furniture the wood colors will catch up to each other and the lines will fade!!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far it's great! The product as shipped is actually more varied than the sample they had in the store. The latter was pretty uniformly blonde-colored. But the flooring, when it came, was a variety of colors, including the blonde we expected, but ranging into some very nice reds. The contractor was sure to mix up the colors and we are really pleased with the result. My one worry (and this is no reflection on the product--just our judgment in installing it) is how well it will stand up to our 2 100+ lb dogs (and their claws). I expect some scratching, but hopefully it won't be too bad. I'll update in a couple months when that is more clear.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This solid maple floor has cupped and warped terribly We hired a very experienced installer for our new construction. This floor looks beautiful out of the box and we absolutely loved it. Within a couple of months, however, this floor started to cup and move around. It is even pulling the nails out of the subfloor (or maybe they are breaking off -- they let go with the sound of nearly a rifle shot). In some areas you walk on this floor and it pops like bubble-wrap. We are really disappointed. This product is obviously defective (I've had several people confirm it was installed correctly) and I'm hoping the "55 year warranty" that accompanies this product will help us get this floor out of our house and replaced with something else. I've had wood floors in homes all of my life, and have never seen anything like it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A bad experience For our relatively dark room we wanted to install a hardwood floor and decided to choose a bright wood and picked Vintage Maple Natural. To plan this project and how your environment should look like you depend on the examples exposed in the shop. There we saw several examples matching exactly our expectations how the floor should look like. The wood was delivered and three days later was supposed to be built in. More or less by chance I opened one box and picked a plank. What I saw had only a few square inches of bright maple natural. The rest of the plank was more or less dark brown. So we opened another box, took out all planks and saw that almost half of the planks were dark and with many stains and knots. Very poor quality! This was not the floor we wanted in our living and dining room. We tried to get rid of it.We were able to cancel this order, but this was a very bad experience.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Three different board widths These floors are beautiful but a headache to install. Some are exactly 3 1/4 but some are slightly larger and some are slightly smaller. It's not an installation issue, I measured the boards and the thickness is not the same. Very frustrating as you lay in a board and there's a big gap. most of the boards were the same, but having to measure all of them and keep them in different piles by width and length was a pain. There were also a fair number of boards that were unusable. I think the price is much to high for these floors. I bought them when they were in stock at the stores for much less. Also keep in mind that they yellow with age. I still like the color but not as much as when I first put them in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved the different colors of the wood, once installed. The store sample should reflect the different colors but did not. Product's color changes enhances the look once the floor is installed. There was no bullnose step piece that matched the hardwoods, so I had to go to a special order flooring store to get one to match.
