Once the fertilizer has been applied correctly, you may not need to water but if you have over-applied this, it has the capability of burning your lawn as you discovered. Your only salvation will be to dilute the fertilizer by watering.
Hopefully the root system has not been harmed and your grass will come back over the next few weeks. Please keep us posted on your lawns progress.

If it were my application, I would mix my seed with the milorgranite so I didn't have to do two applications. The milor will not burn the seed, if anything, it will really help it grow quickly and it will continue to feed through the germination process and early stages of growing.

I panted them with Corn, carrots, radishes, lettuces, snap peas, bush beans, tomato varieties, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, green peppers, atris peppers and marigolds (for bug and pest control) I have never had a garden that has produced as well or as much as this one is going to produce before the end of the season....The Milorganite made my new beds EXPLODE. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Read previous reviews and product seemed reasonably priced. Applied product per instructions on bag. It's been approximately 3 weeks since application and no visible results on my lawns. Lawns have not "greened "up as I expected they would. Product did not perform as I had hoped. After application bad smell/odor. Not unusual for these products, just more unpleasant for me. Maybe others will have better experience. No damage to lawns, just did not perform on my lawns as hoped. For the price, maybe worth a try. I would not repurchase based on my results. Back to Scott's turf builder. Always seem to have a better result, although somewhat expensive. May 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This stuff is junk. Buy scotts Live in Michigan where having a hot dry summer. Bag said it doesn't need to be watered in that's totally false. Bag said it won't burn your grass that's totally false. Bag also said that it will take awhile for your grass to start turning green. I've had this on my grass for a month now and it's still brown. Like they say you get what you pay for this stuff is garbage. That's what it's made out of and that's how it works. Don't waste your money buy Scott's. July 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great lasting fertilizer I have been using this fertilizer for years now during the summer months. No more Scott's for me. My soil is acidic to start with and the Scott's seemed to just add to that and became less effective. Using Milorganite and some iron feedings early, my lawn is as healthy as it has ever been. Be aware that it does have an odor (given the ingredients) but once watered in that passes fairly quickly. Just something to consider if you have close quarters. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Fertilizer I was a Scotts user for 25+ yrs. not anymore. Milorganite is just as good as the manure coming straight from the Farm. Grass has never been this green. And my Double Knockout Rose bushes have more roses on them than u can shake a stick at. Best of all, it is 1/2 the price June 28, 2016
