The hammer drill was essential to drill concrete screws into concrete walls. (I installed brackets for a run of plastic irrigation tubing.) I was surprised at how light it was compared with a Milwaukee heavy duty drill; I could actually handle it with one hand (not recommended for precision purposes, however). The drill has two settings, one for drilling the hole, the other for driving the anchor bolt or screw. Both settings have variable speed. The switch rotates 180 to change settings; sometimes it takes a light wiggle of the chuck to turn the switch; not a problem at all.
I used a Tapcon Condrive 500 Installation Tool, with 1.25 inch adapter and 3/16" hex head for the anchor. The volume of work I was able to do was so fast, it caught me by surprise.

This was my first hammer drill. Used it exclusively installing 11 hurricane shutters on exterior masonry on my house 1-2 hrs of actual drilling). The speed selector totally disengaged and stopped working halfway through the project. Kept using the drill, but the entire power train would disengage every now and then and got worse. Also as other posters wrote, the chuck won't hold bits properly, had to re-tighten every two holes. Didn't even bother trying to fix it under the warranty. So mad, this thing went straight to the dump.

Boss and I read the reviews, and were well warned: chuck problems. Aware of these issues, we still purchased this drill because we had bits and did not want to become beholden to the sds bits (which are quite pricey). Boss wanted to buy it online, but I convinced him to get it from Home Depot, because given the risk, it would be good to know that we could always return it.
The reviews are indeed correct, the chuck comes loose during drilling. I tightened that thing good too, even tightening up each hole twice in rotating order, just to be sure. Still, the chuck came loose. On the 4th time that it came loose, a screw fell out of the chuck opening. It broke! I tried putting it back in, but it spun around without grabbing.
All together, I got an inch into the concrete before the screw fell out. I returned the product (no problems except the minor wait), and purchased the bosch bulldog, which is right now drilling into the concrete as if it were unsalted butter. The bit does have some play on it, and I am concerned watching the chuck (or whatever it's called on sds drills) spin, as it doesn't appear to be centered.
Still, get something good, and don't waste your time. Or waste it, and write a review about it, like I did!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Whitedog great...light weight and does what its for. Remember to purchase ear protection i didn't
The drill is great, it does just what its advertise. Little noisy and recommend ear protection. The Home Depot associate George Pierce was especially helpful and a main reason I purchased this item. Kudos George

The drill is unequivocally the worst drill I have purchased. The chuck does not adequately hold the bits. It is very difficult to change speed 1 and 2. The only good thing is home depot's exchange policy.

This is the second Milwaukee power tool I have purchased and I am pleased with both.

This was my third Milwaukee Hammer Drill. First cost $240 had steel case and removable cord, bought in 1990 it lasted 15 years. 2nd was about $200 with fixed cord and plastic case, was okay. I bought this one, very similar to my last one, tried to use it for about 10 minutes and took it back!! Bad chuck and too much plastic. I have many Milwaukee tools and will surely buy more; but this one is junk.
