Customer Questions & Answers

Confused about this model 5616-24 kit and the H-D description; why are there inconsistencies?

The description mentions a 1-3/4 hp and a 2-1/4 hp motor. Is it the 2-1/4 hp model? The description also mentions that there is no variable speed; however, "EVS" is variable speed. Does this model have a collet lock or does it require two wrenches?
Asked by: Anonymous
The 5616-24 kit includes the 5616-20 router which is 2-1/4 HP, variable speed, comes with 2 wrenches, and requires both.

Table Mount Screw Pattern Compatible With Porter Cable 890 Router Series?

I have a Porter Cable 890 series router mounted in a table which uses three screws to hold the base to the underside of the table. Will this Milwaukee router mount using the same screw holes in my table?
Asked by: tommyreno
I am using my Milwaukee router with a Porter router table and the holes line up perfect. The base plate has several options for use with multiple router tables. I really don't think you will have any issues.

2-1/4 Max-Horsepower EVS Multi-Base Router Kit with Plunge Base and BodyGrip Fixed Base is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2 1/4 hp Milwaukee plunge router No regrets, I owe maybe to many Milwaukee tools. (have o keep up with the younger generations). I am a millwork installer in constant battle for better tools against coworkers. This one left them in the dust (saw dust that is).- It's balanced, comfortable grip, plunge is smooth to activate and realease, EVS makes it smooth on cutting materials. I'm very satisfied with his product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well-designed, quality, and Heavy-Duty My very first router, but by no means my first Milwaukee power tool. I'd been using my father's Bosch 1617 EVS for over 10 years. My first impressions after using it is that it's a well-thought-out design. The on/off switch is in a very intuitive location that is like right there when you're done routing a piece of wood. The collets and spindle are very meaty--indicative of large bearings and heavy duty design. The supplied wrenches are over-kill thick and heavy-duty, unlike my dads Bosch which the wrenches are bent because they're too thin. I love the soft start and there's an easy breakdown chart of the speeds to number dial relation on the router itself so you know what's ideal for the application and don't have to go hunting for the owners manual. The case is awesome and has plenty of room for a router bit storage. This is probably one of the best investments my wife and I have ever made towards home improvement. I'm sure it will last many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed with my First Router The router feels comfortable and easy to handle with the Body Grip. Not nearly as loud as i had anticipated. The motor is easy to switch between bases and all the depth controls are easy to adjust and accurate. I look forward to seeing how it works when mounted in a table. Just another solidly-built tool by Milwaukee. And by the way, I disagree with others' comments about the case. It protects the tools well and who really cares about the size of cases? I had read and watched a ton of reviews online and was on the fence between this kit and Bosch's. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this router to all and have no regrets with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Love it Ok we all know Bosch Model # 1617EVSPK is well know to be a great router. I Owned it my self but did not last so I decided to try this Milwaukee.. Here is whats better from Milwaukee vs Bosh, Milwaukee: 1. Rubber grips 2. WAY better to remove from plunge and fix base. 3. A lot less vibration 4. Comes with a centering pin 5. The body grip, yea you have to try it to believe it. Here is whats better from Bosh Vs Milwaukee Bosh: 1. The plunge feels smother has less resistance. 2. Box it came with 3. Router Guide Options 4. Soft start My personal opinion, Milwaukee wins.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Everything you expect from Milwaukee except where it's made I have never been disappointed with a Milwaukee power tool going back at least 20 years and this one delivered as expected. The plunge base operates smoothly and I particularly like the spring-loaded plunge lock lever. It is within easy reach of the thumb, not too stiff to operate, and locks crisply. Unfortunately the same thing cannot be said for the depth stop rod and lock. Setting the rod precisely is difficult because it wobbles around a lot before being locked into place with the locking screw. Lastly, I didn't realize until after I bought it that it was made in China. One of the reasons I have been so loyal to Milwaukee over the years is that most of their power tools were manufactured (or at least assembled) in the USA. I suspect that I will own a wider variety of brands in the future as "where it is made" no longer factors into the decision as to which to buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, reliable and accurate I'm very happy with my new Milwaukee router. The two bases swap out easily and the depth adjustment is both easy and precise with either base. The only minor negative is the case. Not all the parts stay in place.
