Customer Questions & Answers

what drill do I use with the 2 9/16 switchBlade self feed drill?

Asked by: Anonymous
I just posted a review. My suggestion is to use a low speed drill motor. I'm not an expert but with a traditional drill motor at like 3,200 rpm's or so, I almost broke my arm. I then tried a switchable speed drill motor {1,200 or 300 rpm's} set at 300 rpm's and it worked like a champ. What tolerance or range of speed I can't specify other than the speed setting I used it at that worked great. Great product with the right drill motor operating at a right speed... I just don't know for sure what "range" of speed it works within well... but from my experience 300 rpm's was perfect.

I tried to use this with my drill press as I would use one of my regular Forstner bits and it snapped a piece of 3/4" pine in half at the pilot drill site--tried three times, same result...is this only for use with super thick wood and rough cuts? Is there a different speed that might work on a drill press?

At first attempt of using this bit with a drill motor that is about 3,200 rpms... it was almost impossible to handle. I almost broke my arm betting slammed into a near-by joist. Maybe an operator issue but I don't think so. I borrowed a drill motor from my neighbor that had a hi/low speed switch. I set it to low which is 300 rpms and it worked like a dream. I drilled 8 holes with no problem at the 300 rpm setting.

Only caution is if you are using a Milwaukee Hole Hawg or equivalent drill is to Hold On as this combination will take no prisoners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great drill bit This is a great drill bit. No effort drilling through studs, joists, plywood or anything wood. No pushing or straining, it just pulls its self through. I only had one small problem, I hit some nails. Once I ran a file over the replaceable blade, it was good as new. I love this thing and look forward to getting more sizes to add to the collection. You may think the price it a little steep but, you'll know why once you put it to task.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Idea The self drilling bits have always been a great help when laying pipe or running conduit but after a couple of nail hits your self drilling bit is done. But the switchblade solves that problem just remove the hex head screw and replace the blade in your self drilling bit. GENIUS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Auger bit Messier than a whole saw, but quicker. Have to switch blades before you wear out the actual bit

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A gimmic that does not work Expensive, dulls rapidly in clean construction lumber, and no replacement replacement parts are available locally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Milwaukee 2 9/16" bit I bought this bit to cut holes in 6" timber and it works great. After 26 holes so far it is still very sharp and cuts true. I just wish HD had a 3" size.
