Customer Questions & Answers

for cutting thick metal what is preferable 18 or 24 TPI?

I want to able to cut thick metal, what blade and TPI is better? It looks like both 18 and 24 TPI blades are rated up to 5/16, now I cut 1/2" of mild steel yesterday with original 14 TPI blade, I just went with slower speed. I have some bars that are 1" and 1-1/2" and I plan to cut them, is this the best blade for the job?
Asked by: DimaProk
The real question is not the thickness but the material. Iron, steel and stainless will cut well with this blade. Use 10 to 14 tpi for aluminum.

Asked by: coach
Yes, only intended for metal, iron, steel ect. but will cut wood in a pinch, s l o w l y by comparison to a wood saw. Aluminum may clog the teeth.

which blade is best to cut composit hand rails?

Asked by: gio
What kind of composit ? Ground up wood, then a wood saw. Fiber reinforced resin, fiberglass or plastic, then this is the blade for you.

One: tuff material and Two: thin material. One ,iron, steel, stainless, and annealed tool steel . Two: thin sheet metal, but be careful thin stuff can go fast and lead to jamming and breaking a band..

I bought these for my Portaband to cut some thin wall steel tubing. within the sixth cut the blade broke at the weld. You could see the poor weld. It looked as if it may have not been annealed after welding. The second blade doesn't look any better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed, poor performance I'd previously purchased another brand of blades at a different retailer, but I know the Milwaukee name, own several Milwaukee tools that I'm happy with, so I thought their blades would be good performers, too. That is sadly not the case. I'm a blacksmith, and with the other brand I could get a LOT of use out of a blade, at least a month of solid use before having to replace it. With the Milwaukee blades I'm very lucky to get a weekend out of one. This past Friday I changed out a blade and by Saturday evening it would not even NICK the mild steel I was trying to cut, just 1/4" piece of mild steel rod! The blades were already worn to a nub, and I only use mild steel so I was not over-stressing the blade. I'm returning to the other retailer to get the other brand and won't be buying Milwaukee blades again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid These blades are unstoppable. They bend, heat up and take a beating and still do a great job. This blade does cut better when it is cold.
