I bought mine at Ace Hardware store for 1.50 .. they also sell the retainer cap for 1.20 each. 10 " tires solid tires for 8.99 each. Tap the cap with a socket instead of hitting the cap.. If I can do it anyone can, this is an easy fix.

What about trying a very long thin nail that fits the hole? You could always put duct tape on the end to keep it attached to the frame.

Okay, so I was able to answer my own question about the little rings. You DON'T have to destroy the rings if you do it correctly. Here's how:
1. Get two thin bladed screwdrivers (not small, but with a relatively "sharp" ends).
2. Begin to pry up the edge of the ring by inserting the screwdriver and twisting. Insert the second screwdriver NEXT to the first and twist as well. Once the second one is twisted so that its width is up and down, remove the first screwdriver and begin doing the same thing on the OTHER side of the second screwdriver. Do this one or two more times, moving around the axle. You DON'T have to go all the way around, just about 25% of the circumference will do. Then go do it on the other side of the ring -- 180 degrees across from your starting point.
3. Once you have bent up the edges of the ring on both sides enough to grab the ring with pliers, you move to stage 2. (If you have Vise-Grips or any other kind of locking pliers, it's way better.)
4. Once you have gripped the ring with the pliers (or better yet, locked the ring with Vise-Grips), being to slowly rotate the ring around the axle, exerting steady upwards force on the ring. As you do, the ring will slowly move up the axle and eventually off.
5. Once you have replaced the wheel, take the two rings (don't lose the washers -- which are on BOTH sides of the wheel) and pound them flat again with a hammer. Then put the washers back into place, then press the rings back into place atop the outer washers, possibly with needle nose pliers exerting equal pressure on both sides, so the rings slip down into place on the axle.
Voila! Wheels changed (I recommend changing the inflated tires out for solid ones, unless you want to be repeating this process again and again.

The pneumatic wheels are held on by a retaining ring (washer like piece with grooves in it). To change the tires you need to pry/bend/break that retaining ring off. We recommend using a flat head screwdriver and pliers, but you can use whatever tools you think will work. Do not worry about damaging the retaining ring as it is meant to be a one time use piece. To apply the new ring you need to hammer it on. It works best if you put a socket over the retaining ring and hammer the socket rather then the ring directly. This allows it to go on smoother and easier."

I have the same problem with the smell of the tires, but I don't think it goes away, over time. I have a rubber mallet that has a similar odor, and it still stinks, after several years. You just have to store it in the garage, if you have one. That's what I plan to do.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by How to Avoid a Hernia Having purchased 3 sinktops at Home Depot, the Hand Truck made the job much easier the third time. I ordered the wrong size on my second purchase thinking the guest and master bathrooms were same countertop size. Having carried it through the rooms and setting it atop the master bathroom cabinet, my son told me I must return it for the right size. He had already taken the old sink off and packed it in his van for disposal. He had to go back outside and take the old sink back and reinstall it once again until I ordered the right size. That very night I got back on the computer and ordered a smaller one. Seeing how heavy it was to take one off and remove the new one from the box and attempt to set it in place, I vowed I would try to make it easier for him next time. That is when I decided to buy the Hand Truck to make the job easier. Instructions on the sinktop box advise 2 people carry it. He had no help since i am handicapped. What a difference it made to see him walk it through the hall with the Hand Truck doing the carrying. May 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by For the price its OK, but... It works as advertised, but can't shout about it. I didn't like, compared to competitors, there's only 1 locking hairclip pin. As a dolly, it works great. But as a cart, they way the handles insert into the whole is not firm, and thus makes it feel rickety. It probably is secure, but it just doesn't feel its solid. Compared with other products in the price range, this is OK. However, for $15 more at a members-required wholesale store, they sell a similar load rated product, which IMHO is worth paying a bit more for - being aluminium, has no-puncture tires, quick re-configure. So if you're penny pinching, then this is good enough. If not, I'd pay a bit more and get a better product. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by solid, well build all metal design solid, well build all metal design. easy to use, turns nicely around sharp corners May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Incredibly handy We bought this because we had a heavy pot we needed to move, and it almost immediately was being used for all sorts of little moving projects. Extremely well made, and very easily converts from stand-up to flat configurations. I'm just wondering why I didn't buy this sooner. May 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not Really Heavy Duty I purchased this to move a very heavy fireplace insert which weighed maybe 300. I had it on all four wheels and the tires were struggling. But did what it was supposed to. I dont think it could handle 800 lbs though. My other issue with it is the extension bar. It feels very flimsy because it is only locked in one side. You could obviously drill a hole and put in a pin yourself but we shouldnt have to. So it feels rickety when extended. Going to return for 159$ one. April 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Inspect before purchasing Purchased this hand truck to move daughter to college. Decided since it was made in the USA I would go with this item. I also like the convert to a dolly feature. Unfortunately the dolly wheels were welded on crooked at the factory by 1/4" so it wobbles and is unstable in that regard. Look it over before purchasing. Manufacturer has yet to get back to me regarding the poor welding. Home Depot is not at fault here, and I didn't notice until a couple of months after I purchased when I decided to try the dolly. Just make sure to look it over before you take to the register. October 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for moving heavy boxes This is blessing to me since I am moving to another state. Thing can get a little somewhat heavy when you are trying to move. I love this convertible hand truck, especially the 2-N-1. April 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality, great value Good quality, very sturdy and has some heft. We have not tested out the max load but for every day use, it seems well worth the value. March 22, 2016
