Hello Rick. Yes, it can cut wood quite well (with the proper blade) thanks to its speed selection dial and variable speed trigger. Hello Rick. Yes, it can cut wood quite well (with the proper blade) thanks to its speed selection dial and variable speed trigger. I used it with a 10/14tpi blade just last week to cut the overhang off of a 1.5 thick laminated plywood workbench counter mounted to a metal frame. It easily cut a nice edge by "walking" the blade along frame using the metal surface as my guide.
All the typical teeth per inch (tpi) count blades you would use for a hacksaw are available. I use the above mentioned 10/14tpi blade for thick (1/4in and up) aluminum and thick (1/2in and up) carbon steel (plus wood) and then a 20/24tpi blade for thin aluminum and most other steel, including stainless. The 20/24tpi stays on my saw most of the time as my go to blade - since it can cut anything, just slower. A good rule of thumb with any metal saw is that your blade should have 3 teeth touching metal for optimum blade life and cutting speed. How you hold the saw (in relation to the material) and your blade tpi work together. Also, aluminum likes to "load up" (clog) the teeth in higher count blades, especially if cutting too fast, so plan your blade purchase according to the material you want to cut. The case with this saw does have a handy spare blade pocket to have your second blade readily available. Read Less

Answer:
Yes, it can be used for wood but would not deliver the precise cuts as a power saw, sawzall, or jigsaw.

Since there is a portable band saw table offered, it only makes sense to have a lock on switch.

Answer:
No. I use a clamp to do this. My saw is mounted to a special table and I must use an on and off foot switch switch with the trigger clamped to the on position to operate it. I use a clamp that can be immediately removed if necessary.

Answer:
No, there is no lock switch as in many other power tools. I have the SWAG table (love it) and they even recommend simply using a "quick grip" squeeze clamp to hold the trigger down. I plan on getting the foot pedal so I have a quick off switch and finer control of the cutting action.

This tool cannot be locked in the ON position. The lock button is only used to lock the trigger in the OFF position.

Answer:
Yes, Milwaukee makes a stand that converts it to a vertical saw with a cable clamp that is great for pipe. You can even use standard pipe for legs.

I don't believe there is. I just buzzed through the Milwaukee website and they did not list any bracket under the accessories for this bandsaw.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 25 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Saw I have been doing metal work for years and using Chop saw, cutting torches, and cut off wheels to cut things, and now I kick myself for not purchasing this saw years ago. I done several large projects and no once powered up the chop saw, this deep cut saw took care of almost everything. Cuts fast and clean. The variable speed adjustment near the thumb is nice for quick changes in cutting speed. Blade changes are simple, and the cut depth works for most common metal stock, anything bigger is going to need a torch anyway. The only draw back is the weight, however to get the power and speed I can understand the need for the weight. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Made a hard job very easy Had to narrow a car trailer frame by 2", cuts had to made in the center of 5 cross beams thru 2x4 3/16 wall steel tubing. Made very striaght cuts and very little weld prep after. It did not seem to work the saw very hard. All 10 cuts took only 35 mins. Saved me a ton of time over useing plasma cutter and grinding April 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected Cutting 60 year old black steel pipes - 2.5" diameter with 1/4" wall thickness. Practically destroyed a 4" cutoff wheel after 20 minutes per cut. This machine chews through it with ease - 30 seconds. Awesome tool April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cuts like cutting butter! Easy to use, Just purchased. Used it to make straight cuts in 2x2 inch 1/4 inch wall square tubing. Smooth easy to hold. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best portable Bandsaw available I love this saw. I've been using the Milwaukee brand bandsaw ever since the first portable model was introduced into the construction market. Each version becomes more user friendly, now we just need to expand the cutting width to 8" for wider and larger materials. October 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Approved For Farm Use I used this saw to repair an implement on my farm. I needed to cut 2.25" solid bar (not tubing) in to several pieces. With the 14 TPI blade I was able to cut the bar 3 times before I needed to change blades. So in essence, this saw will cut through almost 7 inches of steel before you will need to change the blade. If I would have bought the 6 TPI blade as I wanted, I probably would have been able to cut all 8 pieces. The only thing negative I will say about this saw is that it is difficult to make a perfectly straight cut. Imagine a hacksaw with an electric motor on it. Other than that it did exactly what I needed it to do. Just go slow and let the saw do the work. April 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What took me so long... Why I never got a portable bandsaw before now - I don't know. No matter what I throw at it in the metal shop, it cuts through easily, and cleanly. 1.5" stainless round bar, steel angle, tubing, plywood, etc., etc. The variable speed trigger switch and speed range dial were a huge selling point and glad I got a saw that has the feature. It does have a clutch-controlled soft start that takes some getting used to, but because of it you can easily start your cut with the blade on the material. The LED cutting light is a nice feature. Be advised, the kit with the case does NOT come with a blade, glad I had read that before though. Also, I bought the beautifully made SWAG Offroad vertical table for it and what a great addition. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw I have only had this saw a short time and have used it on 3 projects so far. Works great. Wish I would have purchased one way back when. Easy to use and make straight cuts. I have made several cuts with the same blade and can't tell it's any worse for the wear. Cuts smooth, straight, fast and no sparks and the metal is not even warm to the touch. Really glade I pulled the trigger and bought this Miwaukee band saw.. May 19, 2015
