I wanted to replace door locks at home. The door and frame are 39 years old. Only a small part of the deadbolt opening needed to be enlarged. I tried chiseling that part, but that would not work. I purchased the DOOR LOCK INSTALLATION KIT. I viewed the site video and followed the directions. Everything when well. The saws made good clean cuts, and tool stayed in place during cutting.

I have an old 1907 building and was changing a pocket door into a swinging door. The door needed a lockset. I priced out the cost of hole saws and arbors, and for just a few dollars more, I could get this jig that eliminates the error factor in drilling the holes for a new lockset. Easy to locate the right spot on the door and the guide allows for exact cutting of the holes. I highly recommend this for anyone, amatuer or pro, who wants a satisfactory result!

I was installing the first of many doors in my house. This saved me lots of time. I wish it came with a quick release arbor... I would have liked to have a second one.

Maybe it was just mine but I had a serious issue with mine. I've had a DeWalt kit for quite some time and it was getting kinda worn out so I bought the Milwaukee, I really liked that you could drill from both sides without removing the jig. On the DeWalt you can't. I had 5 doors to replace for a customer so I put it to work immediately. I drilled out all of the holes and when I went to install the lock-set the handle opening was cut to low and the handle would not fit through. These were cheap handles so I thought maybe that was the culprit. With some modification I got the handles to work but the handle flange just barely covered the hole. I also had a problem with the plunger hole. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it centered enough that you couldn't see the hole when the plunger was installed. Out of frustration I grabbed 2 of my older kits and I put them in position and drew the circles on the side of the door. They both matched perfectly but when I set the Milwaukee over the top and drew the circle it was further away than the other 2 and all three were set on the same setting. Very frustrating. Out of curiosity I picked up one of my other bits and sure enough the Milwaukee bit was bigger than both of them. Very frustrating. Maybe mine was just out of wack from the factory I'm not sure but I was very disappointed.

After reading several reviews for the door lock installation kit I decided to give it a try. I needed to enlarge the dead bolt lock hole on a metal "skinned" foam core door. My first attempt caused the unit to dislodge slightly from the door as the hole saw just sort of bounced around. Not having a "center" for the drill bit that extends from the hold saw to grab into is a disadvantage. Tried a few more times. More bad news. The setback positioner kept switching due to the vibration of the hole saw. At this point I began looking at new doors on the Home Depot site. The hole saw just couldn't get a good grab of the door and I was simply creating a shiny silver circle around the original hole. I tried one more time with only slight pressure on the drill, so far so good. I pushed a bit harder and felt the saw cut into the door. Since there already was a hole in the door I just kept going and didn't just cut halfway as recommended. I cut through in a matter of seconds. The hole was straight and smooth, despite my earlier failures. I was able to install the dead bolt lock with no problem after that. A perfect fit.
I think this is designed for wooden doors or at least might work better on wooden doors- or the "metal" surface doors that don't already have a hole cut in them so the center drill bit can grab and help the hole saw cut. All in all I was very happy with the results, if not the process it took to get them.

I absolutely love this tool. It is well built and very accurate. The rubber grips on the door side really grab well. I like the self centering latch hole position for heavy duty doors. I thing it is built well and if taken care of, it can be used for many years to come.
