Customer Questions & Answers

Does it read the surface temperature or the ambient air between the gun and the surface?

Some naysayer believe the gun isn't reading the temperature of the object but only the surrounding area between the gun and the object it is directed towards. Can you give me an answer or your opinion?
Asked by: John
This item will report the surface temperature accurately for temps ranging from -22 degrees to 622 degrees Fahrenheit to within one-tenth of a degree on a one foot square spot from a distance of 10 feet.

What is the + / - range and what is the distance range to use?
Asked by: Dennis
The Milwaukee® 2265-20 Laser Temp-Gun measures from -22 to 662 degrees F (-30 to 350 degrees C) with a basic accuracy of ±1.5% of the reading. The distance to spot ratio is 10:1 which means when positioned 10 feet from a surface the temp-gun measures the average temperature within a spot that is one foot in diameter around the laser dot. This ratio holds true regardless of the distance from the surface being measured. So from 5 feet away, the spot being measured shrinks to ½ a foot (or 6 inches) in diameter. From 80 feet away, the size of the spot being measured grows to 8 feet in diameter. There is no maximum distance or range for this tool, but understanding this ratio will help decide whether or not it is practical for specific applications. The minimum measurement distance for this tool is 4 inches.

Customer Reviews

Laser Temp-Gun is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well This gun is pretty accurate within a degree or two range. I’ve compared its readings with another gun I have and with my home thermostat. The results were very satisfying. The distance to spot ratio is 10:1, that’s mean for every 10 feet, it will use the average temperature within 1 foot range of the object you are measuring. The operation is very simple, just press the trigger and it displays the temperature on the LCD. The LCD’s contrast is Sky Blue background with Navy Blue text color and is very easy to read in day light and low light. When trigger is released, the LCD turns off automatically after 6 seconds. I like the alarm feature where the gun start beeping & flashing the text if the temperature it’s gauging is out of Low/Hi temperature setting. It’s very handy feature that can be configured based on the trade or task at hand. What I didn’t like is the placement of button that switches between Celsius and Fahrenheit. First, it’s in the battery compartment and 2nd the button is hard to reach. I use a key or small screw driver to change it. It comes with 3 AA batteries pre-installed so it’s ready to operate out of the box. To change the low/high temperature for the alarm, here are the steps: 1. To set the alarm range, press the trigger and then press the Alarm button. Repeat to toggle between LO and HI settings. 2. Pull the trigger to increase the values, press the Alarm button to decrease the values. Wait 3 seconds for the ranges to save and exit. Overall it’s a great gun and great addition to my toolbox.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for DIY This laser temp-gun works up to 350C / 662F,which is more then plenty for most DIY projects. Milwaukee also has other temp-guns with higher temp ranges, but they have a higher price tag too. The device has many functions, including alarms, which can be helpful for certain projects. It seems a little on the heavier side, but most people won't use it for hours, so that's not a big deal. Overall a good product and a good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Endless Temperature reading aplications This Milwaukee infrared laser temperature gun works awesome. It does have a reading field at various distances but it comes with a chart to help eliminate misreadings. The temp gun takes standard AA batteries. A really good use for this temp is to check frozen and refrigerated product coming in from suppliers or vendors. With the costs of food and reputation of your business this Milwaukee temp could pay for itself in one delivery. Even checking things like steam table temperature is simple. Working at a senior center we have to take multiple readings throughout the day and record them. Milwaukee is helping make our job easier and keeping our clients safer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and rugged Very simple and easy to use laser temp gun. Case is rugged and very ergonomic in hand. Has nice feature of setting an "alarm" temperature if needed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from GOOD, but not great I love almost everything made by Milwaukee. This temp gun fits good in the hand, but it is a little heavier than another brand temperature gun that I have. Accuracy is good. After I bought this, I noticed that they make a version of this that runs on the M12 battery system. I think it would be nice to have rechargeable batteries. I feel like this gun is just average. Since it is average, it is a little over priced.
