Customer Questions & Answers

Is this tool can cut emt electrical pipe

Asked by: Tman
This is a great tool for cutting copper, but I tried to cut electrical conduit, and, NO, it can't. It barely scratched the conduit. It probably dulled the cutting wheel tremendously, but I wanted to try. It will NOT work to cut electrical conduit.

In the hospitals I have worked in when you have 7 or 8 medical gas lines coming in each room with 3 inch spreads, it sure beats using an imp cutter. The wheels and cutting wheel is spring loaded so if you push the tool on the pipe to far it will: not cut and just spin, bounce around, or JAM like some of the users have experienced. People need to learn how to use the tool before casting judgment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A dispointment from a great name I was very excited about buying this product however I was very disappointed. The tool is not easy to use and it is very expensive for what it does, A manual tool is 30 to 40 vs 169.00 for this power tool. I do not recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smart investment Works great on copper pipe. It's a bit bulky and hard to align sometimes. But it's a really good tool to have overall, very happy with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don't get it wet As a licensed plumber I use this tool on a regular basis. It is a great tubing cutter, unfortunately when cutting overhead pipes which always have some water in them, the tool gets wet and will not work for a few days until the electronic circuits dry out. I have sent it in for repairs twice ( Milwaukee does have a great warranty) and it has been returned in working condition, until it gets wet again. Bottom line, it is a great tool, but it would be perfect if it's internal circuity was waterproof.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Guess I'll Just wait.... What the heck? I can only assume because of another review that I just have to wait for an hour or so for the thing to wake back up. pipe slipped out and jammed it. Lights flashed and its been dead since. No reset button, you would think taking the battery out would do it but nope. Apparently you just sit and wait for it to wake back up. If it doesn't anytime soon Ill be returning it. and rating one star. Worked AMAZING until it decided to take its union mandated break.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Superb idea with problems We have more than ten of these machines in use, on a very large construction site. We started using a pair about a year and a half ago and have added more with time because our specialist plumbers love them. When working, these cutters are great and there is really no alternative on the market, especially for cutting in confined spaces, between closely packed pipes. However, we have had problems with several units that do not work well, especially on smaller pipes like 12 and 15mm (around 1/2"): The cutter wheel simply does not engage, just slips on the pipe surface forever. Some machines have been that way out of the box. Some mechanical issue, that does not put pressure on the cutter wheel. We have swapped cutter wheels, lubricated etc. but all in vain. There seems to be some manufacturing issue because it has been this way on 4-5 units out of 10+, on a smaller or larger degree. One unit did not work on any size pipe. The cutter heads seem very sturdily built so it may be some issue with tolerances? The machines have been bought a few at a time, from different suppliers, and should be from different batches. The rest of the machines have worked perfectly and a ballpark estimate is that they have accumulated something like 100.000 cuts by now with no signs of problems, apart from the ones described above. Despite the problems, we can not live without these cutters!
