Customer Questions & Answers

Will this saw work as a tree pruner when a clipper pruner is not strong enough ??

Asked by: Anonymous
It will work sufficiently, though less than ideal. Using the proper blade will help.

1 or 2 batteries?

Asked by: Anonymous
Not sure what your question is. The saw comes with 1 (one) battery. I would recommend buying an extra battery and having it charged before your start a job.

Will this accept standard Sawzall blades?

I have the standard Sawmill. Will this take the same blades?
Asked by: Joe
Yes, although longer blades cutting through thicker wood products can cause more friction. The motor torques through it all right, but battery life is cut short. I've used a 9-in blade which ran the battery out fairly quickly.

M12 non-Fuel version Hackzall I'm not a professional tradesman so my needs for this type of tool is for general convenience cutting and uses in confined spaces like cutting off rusted bolts and brackets under a vehicle. I have a Dewalt corded reciprocating saw that given the availability of power and space is certainly the go-to tool for any serious cutting. I wavered for a few months on whether or not to get this version or the "Fuel" version. From reading all the reviews on both it is apparent that the "Fuel" version is considerable more powerful, however it's slightly bigger and is twice price of this version. Since my primary need for this tool is so as to get into confined spaces I decided to trade-off power for the smaller size, not to mention getting this non-fuel version is about half the price. My initial test was cutting through 1/2" steel all-thread rod. I figured if this tool will cut through that it would likely serve all my purposes. Using a Milwaukee 18TPI blade it took 75 seconds to cut through the rod. In comparison; using a new 18TPI blade, my Dewalt took 13 seconds to cut through the same rod. Obviously I knew the Dewalt would be faster, however I didn't think the variance would be that much. What is important to me though isn't the spend in which the cut was made but rather that the cut could actually be made. Since I will likely never need to cut anything harder than 1/2" threaded rod with this tool, this tool meets my needs so there's no need to spend the extra money on the Fuel version or give up any size. All that being said; if I was a tradesman who needed a tool like this on a regular basis, I think I'd likely go with the Fuel version simple due to better performance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Warranty and Repair I bought this product 4 - 6 years ago. It worked great until it stopped working. I was planning on buying a new one, but talked to a Milwaulkee rep at a Home Depot in Atlanta and they told me to send it for repair. I've always been an avid Milwaulkee fan, but it turns out their service department is terrible. I sent back my Hackzall for service. Several weeks later I finally heard from the service department. I wasn't surprised learn that it was out of warranty, especially since I didnt save the receipt. However, the cost of repair was almost as much as replacing the saw. This notification was through email with little detail. I called the service department, and there was nothing they could to help so I asked them to return the saw. They gladly sent it back, BUT IN PIECES! I'm highly frustrated and unhappy with this service, and will be slowly moving my business to Rigid based on their warranty. This was the worst service experience I have ever had. (Excuse the grammar, terrible phone typer)

If you want a tough tool with GREAT battery life, any of the Milwaukee battery tools will get the job done! I have 41 mechanics working on Diesel Trucks (class 8) and these tools are as tough and the MACK trucks we sell and service! ALL 41 mechanics have a battery tool from Milwaukee most of them are m-12 or m-18. Well worth the money simply due to battery life, no swapping these batteries all day they can handle it working on the roughest equipment in the world, they can handle yours too! Great job guys!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thoroughly Impressed! I bought this because the multitool was out of stock, and thought it was not going to perform as good as the multi, but boy was I wrong! I already have a sawzall by Milwaukee, which is a BEAST, and thought the little one would be inferior to the big brother, however if I had closed my eyes I may not have known I was using a cordless saw. The variable speed helps especially in situations where control is important. The battery (1.0 Ah) holds up fairly well, but make sure you get yourself a backup one (preferably the 4.0 Ah). As a result of its great performance, I returned it and ordered the Hammerdrill and Impact Screwgun Combo plus free tool kit with the Hackzall as the free tool! It comes with both the 1.0 and 4.0 Ah batteries and is definetely worth the price! Hope this review helps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tool for specific uses I'm an electrician and I have been using this for about 2.5 years now. Strong tool, small and compact awesome for use on a ladder or very tight spaces. If you are cutting larger objects the power just isn't there. The 18v one is worth your money if youre going to use for wood, large pipe, strut or anything that is large. Otherwise I love it and its my go to. Cuts a lot better than a hacksaw. Would recommend the 4 amp hour batter with it though. It kills the 1.5 ah batteries quite quickly

I suppose if you are cutting plastic or drywall this will do the job but for metal rods or wood you better bring a lunch because you are going to be there all day. I have other Milwaukee cordless tools that are 18 volt and they run like a charm, I couldn't be happier. I thought for the few small jobs I have this would do the trick and I like that it's lighter than the larger model. No. Get the larger powered model.

It's compact yet powerful, can be used with one hand while holding the material you're cutting with the other. I thought the battery drill was man's greatest invention. This tool is coming in a close second if not a tie!
