How long is battery life?

This question is from M12 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless HACKZALL Reciprocating Saw Kit
June 12, 2016
We used this saw for cutting off queen palm tree fronds and seed pods today and had to stop to recharge the battery after cutting only five fronds and two pods. This was on the first charge out of the box and we had charged it overnight.

It did not take long at all to cut through these - two or three minutes each - and it wasn't like it was nonstop cutting because of having to stop and attack from a different angle and having to move the ladder to different trees - so we were really surprised that it did not last longer.

Does this sound like expected life to get out of this battery for this purpose (this would seem to be light usage compared to some applications) ? Does the battery take on more of a charge with subsequent charges ?

Answer:
I figured it out. You have to push the battery down into the charger rather forcefully before the lights come on.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 132 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I bought the Hackzal after seeing a contractor use the tool at my home. It look interesting and I had intended to use it for small jobs such as cutting PVC or other small projects. I had the tool less that a week and was using it to cut roots at tubing for a sump pump system. I believe the tool is a valuable part of a homeowners cordless tools and would strongly recommend buying the tool for the home. October 25, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ups And Downs As a finish carpenter/ and framer for a city contractor, i believe this saw should be used for only convenience then anything, i would not recommend for everyday use but only when needed. For example , i was hanging gutters and needed to cut off some length for end caps, with the torch multimaterial blade it was able to cut the metal in 5 seconds with a full battery charge, i use it about 10 times or less out of the month, battery dies really quick if you are cutting into hard lumber for extended times September 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Compact Hackzall This is my fifth sawzall-type reciprocatig saw. The small size means you can carry it in your tool bucket or tool bag so you're more likely to have it with you. I installed some floor ducts yesterday and it did the job OK, but my arms really got a workout from this light-weight tool vibrating a lot. I went through three batteries carving out two duct holes in 3/4" plywood. When I switched over to a heavy full size 18v Hitachi sawzall, the shear mass of the bigger tool was much more comfortable and smoother to operate and control. Last month I was carving notches in logs with my corded full-size Milwaukee sawzall all day long. No problem. I still like the small Hackzall for it's convenience and portability but be aware that it doesn't replace a full size reciprocating saw. It's also convenient for finishing inside corner circular saw cuts. It definitely has its uses. October 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for tight spaces Had to box out a floor joist for placement of a new shower drain and the house had actual 10x3-1/2 joists set at 12 inches on center (old house). The working area was tight and a full sized recip wouldn't fit. This tool was surprisingly powerful and smooth. Cut right through and battery life is great. This will not replace a full size saw but for these tight spots is a great option. I am really impressed with the M12 platforms power. September 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Compact and comfortable to use Lighter then other saws. Very easy to operate. Compact size makes it useful for tide spots. Battery life is short for big or mid size jobs, but it's ideal for small one. I recommend to have a replacement battery on hands. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Hackzall This saw was amazing, I could start a cut without a pilot hole, it was lighweight and easy to use and move around. The cordless hackzall is the way to go, you don't have to worry about cutting the cord in two pieces,(I've done this) and yhe battery after it is recharged seemed to last for a few hours, which was perfect. Thank You August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by hackzall Tool work great just what i needed eazy to use got more job to forit great tool great price July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sweet I just used this to remove studs for an medicine cabinet in my bathroom. Did the job very well. I larger saw wouldn't have fit in the space. Great tool for the odd job. Very pleased with the performance. July 19, 2016
