Customer Questions & Answers

Will the thermal imager detect water behind masonry, wood, drywall, or metal surfaces?

Asked by: Jon
I would have to say that it depends. If the drywall or wood is wet and remains wet than yes. I'm not so sure on the masonry. Usually will not detect water on metal surfaces. Drywall or wood have a high emissivity. The masonry and metal have low emissivity. You have to understand the physics behind what you are looking at to use this camera to it's utmost. You can email me directly if you like.

Mold in T&G ceiling?

Would this device sense whether or not there is moisture above our cathedral wood T&G ceiling? We believe we have an insulation/ventilation problem and want to see if there is moisture and likely mold up there before we begin an expensive remodel.
Asked by: Khoef532
The 2260-21 Milwaukee® M12™ Thermal Imager Kit, if used on Tile and Glass, will not provide a good inspection. If you can get into a position to image drywall, wood, or mdf surfaces then the Thermal Imager would work for this application.

would this m12 thermal cam let me see if there where an animal behind drywall and or block

Asked by: wildman
The 2260-21 Milwaukee M12™ 160x120 Thermal Imager measures and provides images of the surface temperature of objects. When aimed at drywall or block, it will show the temperature of that surface. Thermal imagers do not allow you to see through solid materials and we do not recommend using for your current application.

M12 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Thermal Imager Kit is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm not only recommending it, I'm buying several for my company. I have used this product before.... I'm not only recommending it, I'm buying several for my company. I have used this product before. This imager is a very good "entry level" tool for Thermography. A tool is only as good as it's user. I'm a professional that has been doing this for more than 15 years. At first, I thought the resolution was bad because I had used many better cameras, but in the end it is good to start your program with. I used this camera once at a previous position and saved the company $11,000/month on the production line.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Imager is good - software is suspect Great imager but having lots of problems with the software, and no response from Milwaukee. Software load from CD stopped working, and could only get the unit to work once with every software load. Tried downloading from their web page and the software just crashes, as does the error report that it attempts to send. I like the unit, takes good pictures, if only I get get them to review them on my laptop.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One of the worst IR Scanners you can buy Where do I even begin with this product? I work with an electrical company and we install/test photovoltaic systems. One aspect of testing requires us to take infrared pictures of the combiner boxes to check for any anomalies in the fuses, strings or mains. For months we had tests fail and multiple retests done. Finally, my company called in a thermographer to do some training with us, see if maybe we have been missing something. Turns out it was these cameras. The thermographer was actually baffled by the fact that a $2500 camera was producing poorer images than iPhone apps that don't even use real thermographic technology. We have since switched to the absolute lowest model from Flir (one that costs less than half the price of the Milwaukee) and have had no issues. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. You will be wasting money and essentially buying a $2500 tool that's as good as a $1 app you can buy for your iPhone. Milwaukee makes some great tools but they were so far off the mark with this one. Not only will you be wasting money on the product but also man hours for retests that aren't even necessary. PS. The Flir E4 has a lower resolution yet produces better quality images. Oh and did I mention you can buy 2 for the price of this horrible unit?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice product for the price compared to others. Nice themal immaging tool, handy for all kinds of plumbing and heating and general home use, find leaking seals in walls and ceilings etc. The price is reasonable compared to others also and the name behind the tool will make you feel better, like you bought quality.
