Hi there, the different between the 2403-20 and the 2404-20 is that the 2404 has a "hammer mode" function. You can read more here: http://www.protoolreviews.com/tools/milwaukee-throws-down-with-next-generation-12v-brushless/4490/

How much does the actual item weigh? Not the shipping weight, which includes the packaging.

Does Milwaukee make a lighter or smaller drill driver that is M12 fuel brushless -- say a 3/8 drill?

I do not know the weight of the tool sadly, but no Milwaukee does not offer a 12v brushless tool that is compact and lighter at the moment. I would imagine Milwaukee has an updated M12 Fuel 2.0 in the works but it will probably be next sprint summer at the earliest the current drill is pretty old.

If you really want a compact brushless 12v drill look at the new Makita 12v brushless drill. I'm a Milwaukee guy but this is the best option at the moment. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Makita-12-Volt-MAX-CXT-Lithium-Ion-3-8-in-Brushless-Cordless-Driver-Drill-Kit-FD07R1/206825297 Read Less

M12 FUEL 12-Volt Brushless 1/2 in. Drill and Driver (Tool-Only) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition to M12 Tools I recently ordered an M12 screwdriver kit, which came with two batteries. I wasn't sure from the description if the Fuel line was compatible, but I was pleased to discover that it is. I was also pleasantly surprised that this tool fits perfectly in the case that came with the screwdriver kit, so I can travel with either tool depending on my needs. If you purchase this tool only drill and already have a kit with two batteries, you can either swap batteries between this tool and the charger or use one in each tool at the same time. I must say that I was blown away by the amount of power that this lightweight tool punches. I had planned to keep my old 18v drill for the heavy duty jobs, but I haven't found anything that this little 12v drill couldn't handle just as well or better than my dinosaur. If you don't have any M12 tools yet, I would definitely opt for the kit with batteries, charger and case. But if you already have M12 batteries and a charger, this drill will definitely not disappoint!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It was really good for awhile After 2 years the chuck loosens and your bits fall out after 3 to 4 holes, the same when to use it for screws. I live in Canada so the warranty is for 3 months and there is no spare parts. To change the chuck would take "several months" and they can't tell you the cost. I couldn't wait several months, so I bought a Makita. They have a 2 year warranty and have service locally. It was nice new, but didn't last long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cannot go wrong with Milwaukee This tool is pretty solid in quality and built and would last a lifetime. The M12 brushless drill and driver tool from Milwaukee is excellent choice if you have been using the other Milwaukee cordless tools. The batteries of most of them are compatible. Its an excellent addition to my tool kit and pretty compact too. The bits are easy to install and remove. Its pretty heavy duty and is powerful enough for routine drilling jobs at your home. Overall highly recommended if you are using Milwaukee cordless tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Could Replace Most 18 Volt tools. Well big red hits another one out of the ball park with their new M12 fuel drill/driver. The balance of the tool is great and the new grip design works great with smaller hands. The performance is amazing for the size and weight of the tool. Even though this is the bare tool your now in one of the best 12 volt platforms out there with 60+ tools. I know this sounds like a paid response, but it isn't I really love my M12 and M18 fuel tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this drill I have only owned this product for one month but I use it hard every day. It has great torque for driving the three inch screws I use in southern yellow pine and the battery lasts much longer than the other drill I have does.
