Answer:
Any m-18 lithium battery will work if you purchase that model, some require the more powerful one that takes the m-18 red lithium xc batteries because it would destroy the regular m-18.

It uses the M18 batteries but I would suggest using the M18-XC batteries as it will chew through a standard battery very quick.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 37 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I am pleasantly surprised how much go this grinder has for a battery operated tool. Nice Job Milwaukee! I am pleasantly surprised how much go this grinder has for a battery operated tool. It is light weight with lasting power from the battery. Nice job Milwaukee! August 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by great but still not like corded! If you absolutely need a cordless grinder then get this one. It is robust and powerful (at first) but can never replace a corded grinder. The grinder has a very nice gaurd sytem and trigger mechanism that alot of grinders get wrong. The grinder wheel change is pretty standard. As for power he grinder on a fresh charged XC pack has good power, almost on par with corded but falls short pretty quick. when i first got it I had to cut 10 3/4" rebar ends to cut with a standard cutoff wheel in the middle of nowhere and while it did do the job, it was VERY warm/hot when finished and nearly depleted the XC 4.0 battery. I reserve this tool now for lighted duty but i still keep it with me daily in my tool bag. Its not Milwaukees fault, i just have very high expectations for grinders. other may have different results with different material and wheels, definitely give it a try over the other brands March 19, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Tool operation It has been my experience that the tool operates well. But it seems to overheat too quickly and then it cuts in and out. July 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Pleased I like the versatility of the handle, (three positions). This grinder is an invaluable tool for hanging and cutting gutters. When piecing the gutters together, it makes precision cuts trimming the lip off the inside gutter, making it possible to slide easily into the outside gutter. It had no problem cutting 3/4" cable, bolts and removing an old metal railing. The battery consumption on this beast is pretty high though, make sure that you have at least two. I love Milwaukee tools and own several batteries so for me it's not a problem. The grip and trigger are very comfortable. I would have given it 5 stars if it were possible to rotate the head. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great product The drill was the best gift for my father for his birthday he was supper pumped to be able to get it June 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Tool and Battery Life Battery life, Power, and ergonomics are excellent. Only reason it does not get 5 stars is that it did not come with a battery. I had to buy that separate. definitely recommend to buy May 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible. No power Not suitable cutting 26 gauge galvanized pipe. Any grinder, cordless or not, should be able cut through 26 gauge galvanized pipe. May 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gift for son who installs garage doors, he says it is wonderful! The drill was a gift for my son, who repairs and installs garage doors for a living. He said it is wonderful, and the fact that it is cordless is such a bonus. So no power lost because it is cordless, he is cutting metal with it all day. April 13, 2016
