This Milwaukee rotary hammer really carries on where a standard hammer drill leaves off. The hammer is extremely durable, light weight, powerful and versatile. With SDS-Plus chuck on board, the hammer is capable of tackling almost anything you put in front of it. It has “Hammer Drill” and “Drill only” mode but no chisel.
Compared to my old standard hammer drill, it has a far superior hammer action because it produces hundreds of times more energy for each individual hammer blow with a maximum of 7000 blows per minute. Keep in mind that SDS-plus hammer requires SDS-plus drill bit which can withstand these higher forces. SDS-plus bits are more expensive than conventional masonry bits but usually last much longer. You in fact can use the standard bits by attaching drill bit chuck attachment (not included) but that nullifies the very purposes of using SDS-plus hammer. Extra money on SDS-plus bits is worth spending and Home Depot carries a vast selection of such.
Its side handle provides better control and helps tremendously when drilling deep holes. Kit also comes with depth gauge and only now I realize what I had been missing to achieve a perfect depth. Milwaukee used a hyper mechanism on this hammer to adjust the depth gauge height and handle rotation which I find very convenient and time saver. The front LED light truly helps in tight shady areas.
This drill is partnered with M18 battery which absolutely delivers the power this hammer needs. On board battery status button is very handy. Included M18 charger has additional port for M12 charger and takes about 60 minutes to charge fully drained battery
This kit rightfully deserves 5 starts in its entirety and I am proud to own it.

Very nice hammer drill set from Milwaukee. The set comes complete with a high capacity battery and charger. We purchased the Milwaukee 5-piece SDS carbide bit set (pictured) to go with this drill. Home Depot carries this set on-line and can be shipped to store.
The hammer drill had no problem driving the 1/2" bit into concrete.

Milwaukee certainly has their stuff together. Not only do they have quality tools for the blue collar workforce, they have made them more affordable, more durable & more dependable making them a leader in the tool market. I do a lot of stonework but I honestly have not done a heavy duty daily beating with this drill...I just have not had it that long, but when I need to tap into concrete, I am certain I have a trusty rotary that I can rely on and not worry about an extension cord or a generator for that matter...this is all based on my experience with a good number of Milwaukee products including the M12 rotary. Since it's difficult to find someone to do action videos, I took a few short videos with my phone to show what it can do with 60 year old, hard as all get out concrete with one of Milwaukee's 3/16 in. x 7 in. SDS plus rotary hammer drill bits with 5/6 in. hex drive for concrete screws (Milwaukee Concrete Screw SDS Bit Installation Kit - Model # 48-20-7497) and drilled a bunch of 2 inch deep holes using 1/8-1/4 charge. You will see that one full charge with this rotary hammer will yield quite a good number of 3/16 inch holes (it's rated up to a 5/8 inch hole but you can expect to get less holes in comparison due to increased size) and with an extra battery (yes, you will need that extension cord or generator), you can alternate charge intervals and continue work without the pesky extension cord while on a ladder and what not. This rotary hammer is powerful and compared to my M12 SDS rotary hammer, it can kick some hard concrete as though you were drilling through an oak board. With what little bit of experience I have had the opportunity with this awesome rotary hammer, I can say that I would highly recommend it every day of the week to those whom could use one in their daily workload. It's great for those applications like attaching wire lath for foundation stonework, deck installations where ledgers need attached to concrete foundation walls, electrical installations where you must attach to concrete, drop ceiling installations where you need to attached your eye lags into the concrete deck above and the list could go on and on...it's just that good. It's not near as heavy as corded versions I have used and is as great if not better than some of the higher-end brand rotary hammers. It's well balanced one handed, has a metal depth gauge, battery charge indicator and drills with the same power all the way through the last hole when the battery is discharged...it also has a straight drilling function too with a twist of the switch. I am not biased in any way, these Milwaukee tools are genuinely great, dependable tools. The tools support the company by being "nothing but HEAVY DUTY"
