For those who were unable to connect the lower capacity battery to this tool are trying to insert an incompatible battery. Both the "Milwaukee M18 Red Lithium 18-Volt Lithium-Ion XC Battery Pack" and the "Milwaukee M18 Red Lithium 18-Volt Compact Rechargeable Battery" fit this tool. I almost didn't buy it and decided to bring my battery to H.D. and check it out for myself. If anyone wonders, the compact battery also fits the circular saw and most likely any M18 Tool. The unit is powerful, I have used it to cut up a fallen branch so far, and it plowed through 5" branches. The unit is very well built, as other Milwaukee tools are. There are many blades available for wood, metal, PVC, ect...and the quick-release is quite fantastic.

I recently purchased a "fixer upper" that was in serious need of fixing. I tried using a circular saw or the hackzall that Milwaukee had, an neither tool was sufficient. I had to tear out ceilings, walls and a deck. This saw is, by far, the best tool I have bought in a long time. The house was built in the 50's so it has plaster over drywall with wire mesh in the corners and where the ceilings meet the walls. You would think the walls were made out of butter and wire mesh? what wire mesh? My favorite was the deck though. This saw cut through 4x4's like a ninja. It cut through them so quickly that they would stay stacked as if I hadn't touched them. It started to rain so I went inside and left the tool sitting on what was left of the deck all night. I woke in the morning in a panic that my new best friend was no longer amongst the living. I wrapped it in a towel and waited about an hour before trying it. I felt like i just found a pet that had been hit by a car. Once time had passed I unwrapped it a squeezed the trigger. The saw roared as if it had been awoken from the dead. Not even a hint of weakness. The foot did show some rust on it but that was my own dumb fault. It might be just the abuse I'm putting this saw through but you need to keep some fully charged batteries handy. This thing might have too much power for the M18. I'm going to try one of the M18XC to compare.I would highly recommend this tool!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Luci Powerful and easy to use.
The cordless feature allows for quick use throughout a worksite and does not lose it's power. XL batteries are the only way to go with this tool.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Keng Requires M18 XC Battery - Beware
Before purchasing, be aware that you'll need to have the M18 *XC* battery to use it with this saw. You cannot use the M18 Compact as it will not slide into the battery slot. Home Depot doesn't warn you of this - nor does Milwaukee. So, don't be surprised.
