Answer:
Yes. In fact there is a little bit of work involved in attaching the handle.
In situations where there is a reasonable expectation that the drill will bind up during use the side handle is a highly suggested option since the torque can easily hurt you when the drill spins up out of your hand.

Answer:
Yes, The handle just clamps on to the top of the drill. If you twist the handle clockwise it tightens counter clockwise and it loosens right up and comes off.

Answer:
Yes, and quite simply. Also, it can only be attached in two positions - to the left or to the right, perpendicular to the handle. With the torque this drill has, you'll want to use the handle whenever possible.

Answer:
No. Drill / Drivers are Drills and Can be used as Adjustable Torque Screwdrivers. If you wish a Hammer Drill Milwaukee seels them and lists them as Hammer Drill / Drivers. You Trade torque for the Hammer ability.

I'm torn between the fuel hammer drill/driver with impact driver combo or the fuel drill/driver with impact driver combo. I'll be doing a large demo, remodel, and general carpentry all spring to fall. No real cement work.

I look for a lot of overall torque and guts in a Drill and Milwaukee Drill/Drivers have answered superbly in every way. Their hammer drills are kind of "Ehhh!" ... This tends to be true however regardless of whose you buy.
If you're going to do a lot of "Hammering" I suggest a Rotary Hammer (even a small one) Read Less

Hello,
Either way I think you will be pleased as long as you purchase the Milwaukee's Fuel line. The hammer drill is a very solid tool as is the regular drill. I personally purchased the drill/driver kit that comes with two batteries and then purchased the impact separately as a tool only with no case or batteries. The power consumption on the Fuel series is much less compared to the regular Milwaukee line so the batteries last much longer. If you think you may need to drill into concrete a time or two then the hammer drill would be your choice. I use an SDS drill that is made solely for concrete so I do not need the hammer drill. As far as the impact goes I have the 2653-20 that I bought as a tool only and it is great, I love it. My coworker dropped it from a 12' ladder yesterday and didn't even phase it. The three power setting have actually been very useful as well.
One other thing to look at. Right now home depot is offering the the Fuel hammer drill, the Fuel impact, and the sawzall all for the same price as the hammer drill kit would cost normally and they come with 2 of the 4.0 batteries that last forever. No matter what you choose I would definitely stick with the Fuel series, you will not be disappointed. Read Less

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lousy Chuck After 14 months (not every day use) the chuck locks to the point where I am unable to remove the drill bit without hitting the chuck with something. Very frustrating as all the other tools in the fuel range work well. Am back to using my old Hitachi. February 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One Powerful, Long Running Drill! I use this every day. I live in Maine, and it can get cold here. I was very disappointed with several V28 batteries in the past, as they would not hold a charge, and could not be used in cold weather. So I was cautious about this drill's batteries. But I am very pleased with this drill! I keep it in the truck, and it works, cold weather or not. On another note, to me, run time is king, and I'm finding that this drill's run time seems to go on forever! Yes!!! : ) Belt hook is only a couple dollars; I ordered it online! And finally, although the case has no room for a drill index, I just cut an opening in it to fit them, so it works just fine! January 30, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Superb Tool This tool is great for the price! I have been using it for drilling through hard woods like oak. It drills without a single snag, the driving mode is great for driving screws in, i drove 3" wood screws through oak plywood into boards for a project ive been working on, and it performed flawlessly. Especially when using the nice milwaukee bits. Steady, consistant power without bouncing around in the screw and without stripping the bit. I also used it for putting up a fence and i screwed in approximately 1200 screws through the planks into 4x4s and only used about 1/2 the battery. It does not bog down as it gets low on juice either. Highly recommend this drill November 7, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cordless drill ice auger I'm an ice fisherman and drilling holes in the ice manually was getting a bit too much. There have been a number of articles recommending adapting the Milwaukee ½ cordless drill with 4Ah ion batteries to a standard ice auger.....mine is a 6" Strike Master, Mora. I've had it out on the ice twice and both times, I've drilled 40+ 6" holes, 10 to 14" ice, at 20F .....On one battery! My only complaint was the T handle. The groove in the frame appeared to have crack and a piece of it fell off. Consequently, the T handle kept falling off. I returned it to the store and they replaced it. I have not read any review with this problem. I'm hoping, this was a random defect and not a design defect. February 9, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by High expectations, very disappointed Bought this drill at a major box store chain during a Milwaukee promotion. I was hesitant to spend top dollar on new technology but got sucked in by the hype. The drill came with a third battery, T-shirt, utility knife, drill bits, and hex head bits. I fully charged the battries, took the drill out only to find no response when i pulled the trigger. Tried other two batteries with same outcome. Very disappointed, I returned the drill and got a Compact Dewalt 20v Hammer drill. I'll wait until the second generation brushless drills come out. Hopefully they can work out the bugs. July 16, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Homeowner This product does everything I wanted! Battery life has been exceptional for my use, and the power is even more than I expected! December 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth the money Lots of power, drilled through 1/4 inch steel with on problem. October 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome experience This is the drill that my husband has been wanting for a very long time. I was finally able to get it for him and he loves it! To top it off, it shipped to our house earlier than expected, which is a wonderful surprise! October 1, 2014
