Hammer drill performance

How about peformance? i used to owe a dewalt dc985 and it worked just like a charm against concrete that is my principal are of work and unfortunately i had a fire in my house and all got burned so i'm in a quest for a new drill, this could be compared to a dewalt 20v max? hope you can answe thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
What did you end up buying golden007mty? I did not specifically compare the Milwaukee M18 Fuel to the Dewalt 20XRP for concrete boring, but on paper the performance looks to be in favor of the Dewalt 985M2. The Dewalt is a 3 speed unit with more selective beats per minute which will give you more control based on your bit and material density. The Milwaukee SDS rotary hammer line would be my choice for concrete boring because I don't like beating my wrists and forearms up from the vibration of a pistol grip hammer drill.

How long does the battery take to charge?

Asked by: Jason
From a "tool won't work" dead state to a full charge ... 40 minutes for the XC 4.0 AH battery

If I purchased this set, and wanted to purchase additional bare tools at a later point, would they work? Specifically the circular saw, hackzall, and work light?
Asked by: wcsd
The tools are based on the battery, so any M18, brush or brushless tool WILL work with any M18 battery. There are several M18 battery packs out there and they are all 100% compatible with any Milwaukee tool with the M18 designation. The battery will determine how much use you can get between charges. The standard battery is 1AH (amp hour), the XC is 2AH, and the XC 4.0 is the 4AH version of the battery.

Will it harm or reduce the life of the batteries or charger charging with an 12 volt to 120 volt inverter ?

Asked by: AMCM
Typically No, unless your inverter is a low amp model you should be fine. I have used mine with a 10 amp inverter and I get the same speed on the charge as when plugged in to a wall outlet at home. I see that Milwaukee has a specific AC/DC charger now:

M18 FUEL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Hammer Drill/Impact Driver XC Combo Kit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 138.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome power!!! I've only used the impact driver so far, but I've been absolutely pleased with it up to this point. I was skeptical at first about it being too powerful or not living up to the hype for how strong it actually is. The three adjustment settings for power & speed do work and are needed if use it for a wide range of applications like I do. Anything from dash panel screws to rusty exterior fasteners - it works! I've taken my old Makita stuff home, but have been considering selling that and purchasing Milwaukee set for at home too. Time will tell, but I've been pleased so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best quality and function I've always been a milwaukee guy, but my non-bias opinion is that these are the most superior drills you can get. I've used makita, dewalt (bushless and non-brushless) and the brushed milwaukee m18s. These drills are finely crafted. You can feel the quality just by holding them. Compared to the 20v dewalt brushless, these drills make them feel like toys. The battery life on these exceed expectations and the torque is off the hook. I remodel houses and do everything from cabinets to 8" timberlok fasteners. The impact driver is capable of it all. All in all, I wouldn't trade these drills for any others. Couldn't be happier. Milwaukee really did a good job. Plan on adding the multi tool and circular saw when the new ones come out in October.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good product I never write reviews of products I buy but the reviews on this product help me so much I have to add my two cents. This combo set is the best drill & driver set I have ever purchased . Trust me when I tell you . The power is great , the battery life is great but what I like most is the way the tools operate. Consistent power during use untill the battery is fully drained and that takes a lot of use . I added the circular & rip saws . They are awesome as well . I had the yellow 20v max combo and it was better then ok but it just does not compare to Milwaukie 18v fuel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Drills I've Ever Owned I used to have a Ridgid X4 kit and have used both the 18V and 20V DeWalt's and these blow them all away. I also have some M12 tools to complement this kit. I'm amazed at how much power and how fast the impact driver is. Night and day from anything I've used before. I can drive lag bolts with ease. I also like the 3 speed selector switch to control speed/torque values. Great for people who work on more delicate materials, such as cabinets/etc without the possibility of stripping it out. The batteries seem to last forever. The hammer drill/driver is great. I often set boxes and disconnects with either tapcons or 1/4" plastic anchors, and it's great not having to pull out the Hilti to do so. I also use Irwin self-feeding Speedbor bits and hole-saws and this can handle everything I throw at it. Can't comment on how it drives screws as I never use it for that. That's what the Impact is for. Overall I am really happy with my purchase. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply amazing. Awesome for folks with big hands, too! I am a DIYer, a woodworker (wannabe), a home handyman, and generally a "maker". I have been in need of a new cordless drill for some time. Replacing a quickly dying 8+ year old B&D 18v set, I knew that anything I got would be an upgrade. Since I use my drills so much for so many things, I decided to hedge my bets with this set - get the latest and greatest that should give me many years of service. Brushless is the hot new trend in these things, and for good reason. Longer tool life, longer battery runtime, etc. After comparing the available brushed and brushless sets in every imaginable category, I settled on buying one of the top brushless offerings from one of the big players. These are tools I use nearly every single day and I just couldn't see myself sacrificing quality or features to save a few dollars. I even considered the Festool Hybrid option, as I have a few other Festool products and absolutely adore them... but in this case I couldn't find a way to justify that extra expense. I watched and re-watched many (all?) of the review videos on this Milwaukee set, the competing DeWalt, Makita, and Bosch, as well as some other not-as-popular options including Ridgid, Hitachi, and Panasonic to name a few. For weeks I poured over technical specs and options. I looked for the best deals I could find and even missed a few sale opportunities in the name of due diligence. I decided I wanted the Bosch. I tried and tried to find a Bosch sale as good as the ones I missed on Black Friday and just wasn't able to locate that sweet deal. I was disappointed because I liked everything about that set I could read or watch on the internet... then I found a brick and mortar store that actually carried them. Too small! They advertise the most ergonomic and comfortable grip on the market. For some people that might be true, but for me the things just didn't fit well. For some perspective, I am a large individual. I'm 6'6" and I wear an XXL or XXXL size golf glove (try finding a decent selection of those!). My gorilla hands made the Bosch look tiny and feel uncomfortable. Sure, I could use them just fine... but my infatuation with that product faded very quickly once I had them in my meaty paws. I had almost the same issue with the high-end DeWalt set. Not quite as bad, but still not right. I'm used to the world being made for people of a smaller stature... but I have to be comfortable with a tool that I'm going to use this often. Enter the Milwaukee. The first time I picked one up, it just fit. The larger grip is also rubberized in all the right places (unlike the Bosch impact) and the included 4.0Ah batteries added heft that I felt was lacking in the competitors. The tools also balance nicely in the hand. They just feel solid to me. The Makita was similar in size, so it was an option, too... but for almost the same price, the Milwaukee comes with 33% more battery capacity. I was sold. Fortunately for me, HD is running a sale where you get $150 off the purchase of this set (or any of 3 other choices) plus an additional cordless tool of your choice. The way the deal read, I thought it would be $150 towards that other tool (meaning a $99 tool was free, but you still paid full price for the set). When I checked out with this and the multi-tool of the same system ($99 pricetag), the whole ticket was reduced by $150. Score! So, I got this set plus the multi-tool for $350 total. IMO that's a pretty dang good deal. Now that I've had them in use for a couple of weeks, I am seriously impressed. The fit and finish of this kit is top-notch. The performance is amazing. The battery life is ridiculously good - I charged both batteries up (very quickly on the included charger!) and put one in each of the drill and the driver. In 2 weeks of relatively heavy use, only the drill's battery life indicator has dropped below 4 bars. Granted, I'm mostly comparing it to my old worn-out B&D but that thing would die after about 6 or 7 pocket holes drilled... I've done at least 2 dozen with the milwaukee along with pre-drilling probably 100 holes in other projects. It's still at 3 bars. at this point I couldn't be happier with my purchase. If you are looking for the most solid brushless option on the market, I feel confident in recommending this one to fit that bill. Yes, it's a few ounces heavier (bare) than the competition, and yes the bigger batteries add even more weight... but for me that's a non-issue and the benefits of that extra capacity are huge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from power and function i replaced my dewalt tools am am very pleased with my choice. I added the circular saw to the mix and could not be more pleased as one battery fits all and the battery lasts for a long time. my only complaint is that the Milwaukee salesman had promised some additional tools but never come through!
