Gen 1 impact didn't last me 6 months, awaiting reman. Bought this bare tool New and hoping this one lasts longer. I'm a full time tin knocker which means my impacts see zip screws all day long. I wasn't exactly hopefull for the new self tapping screw option but I didn't expect it to be so weak. Takes me 5x longer to drive a screw with the 4th gear than regular 3rd so it's useless to me. Still a nice impact though and thankful for even the loss of 1/4 in length, just means I can get screws that many more places they need to be. Shorter is definitely better when it comes to drills.

I normally do not give products 5 stars because I always find a fault with them (I am a mechanical engineer and certified Master Mechanic). But this tool is great. You would have to defy the laws of physics and chemistry to improve it. What do I mean by that? For it's size and weight the torque output is fantastic. I thought this thing was a gimmick tool that came with the set I purchased but it has real power to take cars and engines apart in no time. I have used it all day with one extended size battery to take my engines down. It gives full torque until the internal sensor picks up a voltage drop then it simply quits. No ambiguity on when to change out the battery. They charge very quickly as well compared to old NiCd batteries. An hour and you are good to go again or just swap on another and you never have downtime. I don't know that I could kill a battery in an hour with this tool. I would let them cool a little between heavy use and charging to extend life but I have never felt them get hot with continuous on/off usage over 4 hours. It was breaking M10 fasteners no problem when I removed the front clip from a truck. It will struggle with heads larger than a half inch but there are plenty of engine fasteners smaller than that. Buy the hex to 1/4" and 3/8" adapters and you will never be happier. Make sure your nuts and bolts are lubed or this might just snap your work, I was surprised. Again at first glance I thought the little white LED was cheesy but it has come in very handy. If you work in poor lighting or under a car where it might be a little dark it is a very handy feature to have. I have talked with the professional mechanics at work (I work for a major vehicle OEM) and they love these too. They turned me on to them and this has become a staple in my car hobby and engine rebuilding. I have dropped it off a car fender on to concrete, no problems! Five stars Milwaukee.

Had this model for the last 5 months and it has been pretty solid. I have combined it with the 4.0 Amp battery and it is very dependable. Although one thing I noticed (as mentioned from other reviews on other sites) the "Control Switch" (Forward/Reverse switch) is in a bad location (very annoying). Many times I have hit the reverse with my grip, at a certain angle. Milwaukee should have had their Engineers look into this design a little more thoroughly. Other than that I would have given 5 stars for it's durability. Although the Engineers fell short on the Control Switch location. Nevertheless, I would Recommend.

This gun is the best impact driver on the market today. I have seen many other impact guns in my time spent on construction sites and nothing has ever come close. People see how well it works and say the same thing almost every time (gotta put that on my wish list!). It is a little expensive but it is the best money you will ever spend on impact gun. The excellent quality and state of the art craftsmanship speaks for it self. If you don't know its because you haven't tried it yet..

The only issue I have is the placement of the reversing switch.
With my big hands, I kept bumping the switch, and shutting it off, while in use.
I had to stop and push it again, to continue.
Admittedly I was driving at an odd angle, in a hole below my feet at the time.

Got the m18 drill not fuel version and decided to get the brushless impact because the brushed seems to have more issues. And i didn't need to get another battery because i have an extra from the drill. It works to put together metal shelf's which is why i got it primarily. But i also decided to try taking off lug nuts off a truck and they where put on with a good air impact with not cut off for torque took a couple seconds but took them off i was actually a little surprised wouldn't use this one like that every day. But if tires are put on how there really supposed to be shouldn't have a problem taking them off if needed.
