Product Overview

The M18 FUEL product line from Milwaukee is engineered, designed and tested with the professional in mind. These tools are rugged but lightweight, long-lasting but overheat-resistant, powerful but controllable, and compact but sturdy. The POWERSTATE brushless motors on the M18 FUEL 1/2 in. drill/driver and M18 FUEL 1/4 in. hex impact driver function quietly and coolly—a frictionless operation that prolongs tool life and run time. The metal single-sleeve ratcheting chuck on the drill/driver is encircled with a 24-position adjustable clutch that allows the user to set a preferred torque level (725 in. lbs. maximum) while the variable-speed trigger can be feathered in two drive modes (0-550 or 0-1850 RPM) for supreme control. The three fastening DRIVE CONTROL modes on the impact driver allow for the perfect combination of torque (1600 in. lbs. maximum), speed (2900 RPM maximum) and impacts (3600 IPM maximum) to match different applications.

Customer Questions & Answers

Quantity of Belt Clips

Is the statement true in the review titled "HIGH QUALITY COMBO KIT, BUT ONLY TIME WILL TELL" that this drill kit comes with only 1 attachable belt clip for both drills?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes only 1 belt clip comes with this kit. Both the drill and the impact support the mounting of the clip but the drill is heavy for hanging on your belt. Another belt clip can be ordered but HD may not sell it. The Milwaukee belt clip part number is 42-70-2653. See for more info.

Model of batteries included, compact or XC?

Does this drill kit come with (2) regular- sized compact lithium batteries or (2) XC high-capacity lithium batteries?
Asked by: Anonymous
This particular kit includes compact batteries. That is what the CT in the model number designates.

Confusing Picture - Regular Driver, or Hammer/Driver

I know there is a hammer drill driver that looks similar to the one in this combo except that it has the hammer drilling icon/logo on the side. In this product picture it does not but the description states that it is a hammer/driver. Does it has those features, is it a hammer/driver or just a driver?
Asked by: Anonymous
The hammer drill is not sold as a kit with a impact.

How is this different from the $399 2897-22

This product description doesn't show the model # for both drill/driver and impact hammer. How is this different than the $399 2897-22 that includes the 2753-20 and 2704-20?
Asked by: Theruse
This unit is the Generation 1 Fuel Drill and Impact Driver combo kit wile the unit for $399 is the Generation 2 Fuel Drill and Impact Driver combo kit. The Generation 2 Fuel models will be smaller, lighter, faster, and have more torque than the Generation 1 models. The Generation 2 Impact Driver model also features a 4th drive mode specific for self tapping screws. Additionally, this unit includes 2 M18/18-Volt REDLITHIUM 2.0 AH batteries while the Generation 2 combo kit includes 2 M18/18-Volt REDLITHIUM 5.0 AH batteries.

M18 Fuel 18-Volt Brushless Lithium-Ion Drill/Impact Combo Kit (2-Tool) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from last drill kit you will ever buy By far best drill set I've ever used. Drill has a ton of power and I have yet to jam it while drilling. And the impact driver is very robust for its size. The torque output is very impressive and has removed even the most stubborn and rusted bolts. Both have a nice metal chuck that resists damage and provide a sturdy foundation. Battery life is phenomenal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality combo kit, but only time will tell I finally made the switch to lith-ion after my 6-7 year-old Dewalt drill started smoking one day. I was really weighing my options between my 2 preferred brands: Makita and Milwaukee. Both a which have long track records of making professional grade power tools for decades. I ended up going with Milwaukee based on their superior performance ratings in just about every review match-up I came across. Makita has clearly used the improvements in efficiency to make their offerings more lightweight and compact, which is a totally valid approach, but I admit I was wooed by Milwaukee's superior power. That being said, I found the milwaukee set to feel very well balanced and comfortable to hold, something that shouldn't be underestimated. Milwaukee has gotten all the details right with this set. The drill/driver has an all metal racheting chuck, with a separate mode dial to switch from drilling and driving, this allows you to keep your preferred torque setting instead of having to turn the whole torque ring like a rotary phone to toggle between drilling and driving at a low torque number, like with dewalt models. 2 speed settings allow you to shift gearing to get higher rpms or more low-end torque, depending on your application. I have yet to really test the power of this drill. I am a furniture maker, carpenter, artist and art installer, so my usage isn't as power intensive as those in the trades. That being said, this drill is really surprisingly powerful for its compact size and relatively light weight. My old, heavy-duty dewalt xrp hammer-drill weighed a ton and put out somewhere between 400-450 in-lbs of torque, this compact drill can deliver 650! That's pretty impressive. It's really a testament to Milwaukee's depth of experience with developing lithium-ion technology in concert with their latest efforts with brushless motors, together, these deliver serious power, runtime and and tool longevity. The impact driver is equally impressive, the lightweight and compact housing of this model might mislead you, but this is a very powerful driver. 3 speed settings on the tool essentially allow you to dial down the torque. I experienced this when installing a gate latch, I was driving screws at the highest setting and snapped the heads right off! I then switched to mode number 2 and had better results. The quick change chuck on the impact driver is very nice. With no need pull back the lock ring, you simply insert a bit and it locks. that's a really simple thing that makes such a difference when it comes to changing bits one handed. especially if you're on a ladder or holding something up with your other hand. Both tools have an led light to shine on your work area, and thoughtfully, Milwaukee has set the lights to stay on for a full 10 seconds. In dark areas, you can lightly press the trigger to illuminate the area and then have plenty of time to grab a screw or bolt and insert it before the light goes out on you. One of my favorite features of this set is the battery gage. Far from being a filler-feature, this can make a big improvement to battery life and work flow. In the old days, with ni-cad, I would curse a blue-streak when I'd be working on a project late at night, go to grab my spare battery, which I hadn't used in months only to find it totally dead. Since ni-cad batteries can discharge over time, I developed this paranoia about running out of batteries. I would always throw my battery on the charger, "just to make sure". The practice ends up recharging batteries that are already full and eroding battery life with unnecessary charges. Now, I can just press a button and know how much charge I have left and plan accordingly. This kit comes with a case, which is great to carry to a job site and protects your investment from drops and inclement weather. One minor criticism is that the kit comes with only one belt clip, so you'd have to swap them out if you wanted to switch between tools. A minor quibble, I know, but for just a little piece of metal, it wouldn't have killed Millwuakee to incude 2 in the set, especially since other manufacturers do. Overall, I'd say that the power of this set is ideally suited for contractors and builders, but the compact batteries make this a bit lighter for those of us who won't really need the extra long runtime. The combination of lithium-ion and brushless is potent mix of power, runtime, and tool longevity housed within a more compact tool. These days, all the major tool companies (Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt, Bosch, Hitachi, Festool, Hilti, Panasonic) are making great tools that are a vast improvement of old nicad offerings. But, I believe Milwaukee is leading the pack with this technology and it seems like they have taken its 2 premium brushless tools and paired them in this set. Some other manufacturers have better performing tools that aren't available in a combo kit format, so I think the value here is significant. I've only had this set for a few weeks, but my first impression is very good. My main interested in spending the extra dough on brushless was tied more to tool life than performance. Time will tell how this combo kit holds up, but I fully expect to get many years of use out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Designed for the professional! Have been using this product for the past 2 months and no complaints. Design very rugged. Enough power for the HVAC tradesman. Drills through wood studs with no problem. I have 2 of the 2.0 battery and they last me all day. Reluctant to buy the 4.0 battery since its heavier and bulkier. So far i am fine with the 2 smaller batteries. The charger is awesome with the 2 smaller batteries less than 1/2 hour to charge. A bit pricey but if it last more than the 5 years i think its worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful impact driver kit I purchased this kit on line in preparation for building a deck. I used the impact driver a few times and found it very powerful, only having to use it on setting 1 for deck screws. It handles lag screws and bolts with ease as well. I liked the feature of the charger which lets me expand into M12 tools as well in the future. The case as well is very sturdy and keeps everything in place. So, if you're a newbie to power tools or a seasoned veteran, this would be the kit to purchase because of versatility and price point. Two thumbs up for this kit!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Time will tell how good. I expect to use this a long time. Dad often bought Milwaukee with good success. I was a bit disappointed to buy a high dollar, quality tool and find it did not have the handy attachments my cheap ones had, magnetic screw holder and bit clip for more bits. I think you could purchase for extra money. It had a belt clip. Very nice feature, if it stays on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from milwaukee or makita I have a makita drill and impact, my batteries are toast before the warranty expires but home depot Won't replace it because they say they don't carry it anymore but they clearly advertise it on the shelf with the same combo kit I have but anyways milwaukee has the better tools and it's pretty easy to get new batteries from either the Milwaukee place or the Milwaukee guy that comes to home depot every saturday
