Can the XC battery be used?

Can the Milwaukee M12 12v 3000mAh Extended Capacity Battery 48-11-2440 M12 REDLITHIUM XC Li-ion Lithium-Ion also be used to get extended battery life or can only the shorter life battery that comes with the jacket be used?
Asked by: DW
Yes you can. I just bought a XC 4 battery today to use with the jacket. Seems to work fine and fits thin the pocket (My concern was will it fit.) You also can use the 18v M18 batteries with this adapter.

Is the batter pack very noticeable when it is in the pocket?

Asked by: Dmerr
In the mens jackets when my husband and sons wear it, I don't notice the battery pack at all. You'll notice the weight of it more than the actual pack itself sticking out.

Customer Reviews

Medium M12 Cordless Lithium-Ion Realtree Xtra Camo Heated Jacket Kit (Battery and Charger Included) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 113.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket, I love it This jacket is very functional and a great addition to my winter wardrobe. Quality is top class and the color is catchy. Material is water and wind resistant. Being able to keep myself warm out in the field is very comforting. I’ve also been using it during my bike cruising and fishing trips and I can feel a clear difference wearing a regular jacket vs this one. The jacket maintains my core temperature really well. It got 5 heating zones. 1 in the back, 1 in each front pocket area and 2 in the chest area. After switching it on, I can feel the warmth within 30 seconds. Three pockets on the outside are really deep. There are two pockets inside, 1 is very small and 1 is medium size. What I love the most about it is that I am able to charge my cell using the same battery source. The battery housing has a USB port on it and that can charge any device needing 5V or less with 1A of DC current. Just that feature itself makes it worth every penny. My smart phone burns battery fast and this jacket solves that issue. The USB charging is not fast but does give me additional % that can make huge difference in emergency cases. I cannot however charge the phone and use the jacket heat simultaneously. Most of the smart phone brands are coming up with larger screens and those require 2A of DC, it would’ve been super functional if the charger supported up to 2A. There are 3 color coded heat settings. Red-highest, White -medium and Blue-low. All modes are controlled through the power button on the left-front top of the jacket. For me, the medium works best and I am getting about 4 hours of run time. With highest it is 2 hours and 6 with lowest. Talking about cleaning, I can wash it in the machine with warm water and gentle cycle. No dry cleaning or ironing though. The charger re-fills the battery within an hour and that’s impressively fast. Great jacket, I love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm Jacket The jacket is warm even w/o the power. Battery pack is nice, hardly noticable. Battery charges fast. Looks good! The problem I have is that for a $200+ jacket it comes with a 10 cent plastic zipper. Mine lasted a couple of weeks. The jacket is worth the cost to take it to a seamstress to install a proper zipper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a charm You don't have to use the heater much because this jacket is so warm and comfortable, but when your hunting in a tree stand and you start to feel cool its so easy to just push the button to turn on the heaters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the jacket Fit to size. I had XL (6' 3" - 190 lbs.) VERY Quiet and very warm even without heating element on. Pocket heaters worked great. Could feel heat on chest and back from jacket. Battery pack did NOT get in the way - very light

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket, truly delivers I never thought that my top preference for winter jacket will be coming out a hardware store rather than a clothing store. I am highly satisfied with its style, quality and capability. It in fact looks more stylish than some of the jackets I’ve purchased from specialized clothing stores. But what differentiates this jacket from the rest is its heating capability in addition to convenience of charging my cell phone if need be. Its feel and appearance is high-end and either gender can wear it. Being wind and water resistant and with thermal fleece lining, you simply cannot go wrong with it. It certainly delivers what it claims and keeps my core warm in brutal cold weather. There are total of five pockets, 3 outside and 2 inside, so plenty of room to carry my belongings. Front pockets have separate heating control and chest & back has separate. I can wash it with my regular clothes on gentle cycle. The battery charge is quick, in less than an hour it’s ready for another 6 hours. I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toasty Warm The quality on this jacket is top notch. It's warm enough for 40-50°F weather without the heater on, and good for colder temperatures when using the heat. The exterior is water and wind resistant, which helps to keep the wearer warm in all sorts of environments. With the outside temperature at about 45°F and running the jacket on high, I was starting to sweat after driving about ten minutes without the heat in my car on. All I had on underneath was a t-shirt. The five heating elements warm up fairly quickly, and within about 5 minutes on high, it's at max temperature. I like the controls that let you select low, medium, and high independently for the body zones (back, left/right chest) and the pocket heater zones. So for example, I can turn on heat for the whole jacket on low, and crank up the heat to max for the pockets if my hands are cold. The two selection switches light up after pressing for two seconds, and cycle between red, white, and blue (Doesn't get more American than that!) with additional quick presses. They turn off with another two second press and hold. I did have a few issues at first getting the heat to stay on. I'm not sure if I was inadvertently pressing the buttons off, but I had to reactivate the heat three times in thirty minutes initially. I was driving, and the seatbelt may have accidentally turned the heat off, but I was pretty sure I had kept the controls clear of the seatbelt. Whatever the cause was, I couldn't reproduce it during another three hours of testing. The first time around, I ran the jacket at full blast high heat with both the pockets and the body heat zones activated. It lasted about 1:15 with a standard 2.0Ah M12 battery. For the second run I activated just the body heat zones, and it lasted exactly two hours. So I'm assuming that the run times Milwaukee lists for high, medium, and low correspond to just the body zones being activated, since the time lined up exactly. The interiors of the external pockets feature a comfortable soft fleece lining, which really helps warm up hands quickly and is gentle on electronics. The battery pouch is located out of the way on the back left side, and doesn't dig into my back when sitting in my truck. It's also expandable to accommodate a larger M18 battery. The large internal pocket looks to be big enough to hold a tablet as well. One of the best features of the jacket is the inclusion of small buttonholes at the top of the pockets to run a USB charging cable from the battery pouch to the pocket holding electronics to be charged (see picture). My one complaint is that it doesn't charge my Samsung GS4, since the USB output is limited to 1A at 5V. The GS4 and other newer phones require at least 2A output to charge. I did manage to get it to charge a little though, by using a 2" USB cable. The reason the shorter cable works is because it has a lower resistance, and voltage = current x resistance. So when the voltage is fixed at 5V, if you lower the resistance the current goes up. I couldn't get it to work with anything over the 2" cable though - even the 12" cable I tried wouldn't work. So to charge my phone I'll have to hold it next to the battery pouch, rather than conveniently running the cable up to a pocket. So check the power requirement specs for the electronics that you plan on charging with the adapter. The good news is that Milwuakee offers another adapter for $30 that's compatible with their heated gear and outputs 2.1A. I still can't figure out why they didn't include that one with this jacket kit. I almost took a star off for this shortcoming, but I decided not to since it's a secondary feature of the product, and it will only affect a few users who have incompatible phones. I also checked specifications on other brands of 12V jackets and battery power adapters, and the only one offering a USB port with a current output of 2A or over was Milwaukee. Blue brand was 1.0A and Yellow brand was 1.5A. The Orange brand had an 18V jacket and USB adapter with 2.1A output, but that's just too heavy in my opinion. Overall, this is a great addition to the seemingly ever expanding M12 product line. If you're looking for heated gear and already own some M12 tools, you can't go wrong by choosing this jacket. You may just have to upgrade the battery adapter if you've got a phone with high current requirements though.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what you expect!!! Ok to start............I had high hopes for the jacket. I was looking to wear it in the woods. That's why I purchased a camo jacket. After receiving it I called for washing instructions since it smelled like a clothing factory, and was told "we (the customer service rep) are telling people to never submerge the jacket in water. To take a damp rag and wipe it down". What does that do for scent control? So I decided to give it a shot anyways. On a 45 degree day I sat in my stand for a little over 2 hours with the jacket on high. Both in the pockets and the core. I have to say my hands were very warm. I never felt the chest heat, and there's about a 6x6 area that heats up on the back. Moral of the story is I a very disappointed. I knew going into it that there were very specific area that got warm. I just expected so much more. The real deal breaker was not being able to properly wash the new clothes stink out. Hope this helps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Short Run Time Was told that the jacket would run up to 6 hours. and like the other guy, I find myself out in the cold after about one hour. Batteries are fresh from the charger. I thought it was just turning itself off on a timer. Boy was I suprised!
