Work on knob and tube wire in the middle of a run?

I have a bunch of knob and tube wires running in the attic. My guess is most are active but a few are not. Is it possible to use this and old it up to each wire, middle of run, to see if it has power? If not what term/title do I search to find something that will work for this purpose?
Asked by: Jeremy
You can use a voltage sniffer to check the various wires. Be sure and check both sides of the circuit as only one will set off the sniffer. Knob and Tube is very safe wiring assuming the jacket is not dried out as the wires are a foot or more apart as they run about the building for the most part. Use Knob and Tube in Google and you will find more information than you could ever want or need on the subject.

How do you change batteries

Asked by: Isabel
To remove and change the batteries push in on the red tab above the pocket clip. When depressed, pull up on the black pocket clip and the batteries can be removed and replaced.

I have been in the electrical service business over 50 years, and this detector is 100% the best. I had one for 3+ years until my helper dropped it when testing. It landed nose down and was ruined. I bought another one from Home Depot on line, as it is a non stock store item. After 3 weeks the on/off switch started working intermittently . I returned it today and found I had to get a credit and reorder a replacement. The clerks at the store had a terrible time and could not find the original order so a credit could be issued. It appears a defective return, on a non stock item is very complicated due to using different systems. The bigger problem, however, is I was credited the original price of 24.72 and now the price, for my reorder is 26.95. Seems some improvement is needed in handling returns of this nature.

I have been using the Klein voltage detector for years but I thought I'd give this a try because most all of my tools are Milwaukee. As a voltage detector it works great unless you like to push the blade into an outlet to see if voltage is present, then you need to push the tool in using the sides because if you use the end to push using the palm of your hand you end up shutting the detector off. Pretty frustrating.

I am an electrician so it is in my tool pouch for 40 hours a week. I really like this tool because of the flashlight and I keep thinking they will fix this issue(about the 4th one that did this to me).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool, good price. I have owned several non-contact voltage detectors as an electrician - Greenlee, Fluke and Gardner Bender. So far this is my favorite for several reasons 1. Works as good as any and better than most. 2. The built-in LED light comes in handy and helps you remember to turn it off. 3. Works on (2) AAA batteries - not button batteries.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good tester/ poor durability!!⚡️ I'm am done purchasing these testers, I have bought 6-7 of them in the last ten years and they always stop beeping properly after droping them. It's not like I'm dropping them from 10' but from 3-5' and the audible beeping is what I count on when at the breaker panel to turn the breaker off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works good - - until the On/Off button (tab) breaks off. I have had two of theses testers, although they work very well - just after the warranty period has expired (1 year) the button (little black tab on the end) that you push to turn on & off breaks off. This has happened with both of them. For this reason, the next tester I purchase will be a different one.
