What is Custom alloy 76 steel?

Asked by: Marc
Marc, Custom Alloy 76 steel is obviously some kind of special alloy developed by Milwaukee for allowing them to make small diameter driver bits that can handle the torque of power tools without twisting in half. I would suspect the actual details of the alloy are considered a trade secret by Milwaukee. Suffice it to say, these bits are strong and should last a long time in heavy use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bits I've found I'm a real estate investor and I do all my own renovations. I use impact drivers on a daily basis and I'm so tired of using cheap bits that round-over and cam out after only a few uses. I saw these on HD's site and although they're more expensive then the bits I've been using I decided to "bite the bullet" and buy an assortment of these Shockwave bits. So far I'm pleased with the decision. I've been using the same 6 in. bit all day for a week and it's still good as new. I bought #2 Phillips in assorted lengths, a T25 for construction screws and ECX bits for replacing electrical switches and outlets. They all fit snugly and holdup well to an impact driver's abuse. Until the next "Latest and Greatest" comes along these are the best bits I've found.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chose for the Slender Design I wanted a long slender bit to install door knobs with so that I wouldn't scratch the sides of my new knobs. I invested in this bit as it will serve multiple purpose's. When I need a slender, magnetic, impact driver ready, and/or long drill bit, I'll be glad I have this one on hand. The skinny shock absorbing portion lined up perfectly with the bulk of the door knob so that with minimal tilting I was able to fasten the knobs without scratching the handle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tough Stuff This driver bit is awesome! It's supposed to last 30x longer & absorb 3x more torque. I have no way of measuring that other than using it like crazy. It has been used on hundreds of screws to this point & shows no signs of wearing out anytime soon. The bit is also magnetized, which is absolutely essential in my humble opinion. Unfortunately this product is made in China. That is my only complaint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit for deep screws in tight places I am working on a project which requires working under a bench top and drilling up under the top to secure braces from below. Wanted a bit that gave me more working room and fit in some tight places. I also wanted a bit that was one piece so I didn't have to worry about a stubby bit coming out of a magnetic holder. This is a well made bit and handles the torque very well for easy tightening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tip shape, holds screws well Used this bit to install door knobs this weekend. Held the screw well at a slightly oblique angle. Round shape prevents scratching the knob, The little plastic sleeve is what touched the knob most g the time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from more than I expected I did not expect much difference when I purchased this driver bit. It works great and seems to do what it claims by absorbing some of the impact while using it in my impact driver
