Answer:
This detects presence of AC voltage. If there is AC voltage, this detector will announce it. It will NOT pick up DC voltage.
There should not be voltage in a waterline. If there is, you have problems more serious than can be detected or solved with this tool.

I have tamper proof wall plugs in my new house. Will this plug into that type of plug? If not, will it discriminate a signal when in proximity to the power side of the plug and no signal on the negative side of the plug?

Answer:
This Voltage Detector determines the presence of voltage by being within close proximity to voltage. It will not tell you the quantity of voltage that is present except for that it is within the 50VAC to 1000VAC range that the Voltage Detector is capable of detecting.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 20 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Handy Tool For the price, this tool is the best non-contact voltage tester I found. It makes testing circuits, when your on a ladder and reaching up (for instance), much easier than using a millimeter or other device requiring both hands. Also, you don't need to reveal the bare wires to take a reading. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good item bad service Don't think it was a great deal, hard to use there website. think they made the thing walk here the shipping was so slow. February 23, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as promised I needed a device to help me repair Christmas lights. This one saved many strings of lights for me. December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well at a great price This is my first voltage detector and it immediately made life easier when working with very old wiring. October 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product I needed to replace my old voltage detector. Found this one and I am pleased with it. Works great. Red light and sound alert easily to voltage. Green light indicates it is on. January 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Milwaukee voltage detector I have only had this about one month. I used it over a dozen times, and even dropped it from 6 feet two times. All is working fine. The tone is good, and the flashing light is also good. Time will tell on the quality, but so far Im pleased. I own a Klein voltage detector. But I wanted a second tool to keep handy. I did not want to spend $20 on the Klein voltage detector., which is a fabulous tool, but this was $10 and is working fine. July 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Handy Tool This is a very useful thing to have. Detects AC voltage without contact. Inexpensive but good quality. August 11, 2015
