This is by far the best varnish for floors. (I've used Varathane and Fabulon for example, which are good-this is better). Far easier to use and get a good result. Gives a much better finish than water based. (Okay, so that makes it a little harder to clean your brushes, but compared to this varnish, you are just wasting your time with water based anyway.) Two coats usually is enough. Hard and durable. I don't understand bad review, must have been some incompatibilty with previous varnish or the wood. I've used on pine floors, and chestnut and sassafras trim and stairs. 100% satisfied with no reservations.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Brianlovesdiy Refinishing Hardwood Floors
Product worked great on old oak hardwood floors. I had previously refinished with a different brand of water based finish but the wood just kept sucking it in. With this poly finish it truly only took 2 coats and dried quickly even though the house was about 60 degrees and the manufacturer recommends the house be in the 70's. The only thing I would recommend is that you buy more than you need. I was finishing about 400 square feet and it took one and a half gallons to complete both coats, even though the can says that one gallon will cover 400-500 square feet. Another plus: I didn't have to buff the floors between coats or after the final coat.

great produxt with great results, you need to prep and sand according to manufacture spec, i used denatured alcohol to clean wood before and after sanding also used a taack cloth before applying coats, extremely important that when applying coats to be in a warm dry area ( no dust ) so i move the wood around and only apply poly in clean area, used 220 grit between coats vaccum off wood denatured wood tack cloth wood then applied i used a foam roller cover to apply, waited 5 minutes the used the foam roller cover to wipe off any access poly results perfect no drips no bubbles no grits....to save roller covers without cleaning them wrap in saran wrap this keeps the rooler clean and moist so you can use again without having to clean them then when finished toss away lol you can also use saran wrap on the pan the polyurethane in the pan will not dry up or harden it will be as fresh as if you just poured uit in the pan .

Rated 1 out of 5Â by indigojoe really thick and harder to work with compared to other poly for floors
Product took days to dry and was very thick and tacky right out the can. Hard to spread nice even coats. I think because of the viscosity it created a lot of imperfections.

This is the first Minwax product I haven't liked. I bought a 'Satin' finish, but it's super glossy!
I'm finishing an antique rocker and this product takes far too long to dry, which allows for dust to settle into the finish.
With the gloss sheen this product has, every grain of dust stands out. On lighter finishes, that might not be an issue, but I have a darker finish. Now I'll have to go and get their fast drying product. At least I know that stuff drys and Satin means Satin!
