The contractor used this on my kitchen floor. I didn't find out until the product was already on the floor. Will I need to sand the floors again before applying the correct water-based polyurethane, or will a light sanding be sufficient before applying the proper finish?
Asked by: SmithFarm
Hello. This product is not durable enough to be on a floor, even with the correct urethane on top. I would suggest to remove it first and then apply a urethane appropriate for floors. Regards, Minwax Customer Support

I have a outdoor bench and it is painted using water based paint I want to shine it up as well as protect it from sun

Asked by: Rick254
Hello. The only product that can be used outside over paint is the water based Helmsman Spar Urethane. We would recommend letting the paint cure for 30 days before testing the clear coat. Regards, Minwax Customer Support

Customer Reviews

1 gal. Gloss Polycrylic Protective Finish is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent with HVLP sprayers if slightly diluted As another reviewer mentioned the fast drying time for this product requires some skill to brush on correctly. You need to work "wet" and some dilution with water may help. And as with all paint it helps to work systematically rather than tentatively. However, even though the label does not recommend spraying I have found Polycrylic has exceptionally good HVLP spraying characteristics when diluted with about 1 part water with 3.5 to 4 parts paint. Superb leveling, fast drying, very consistent results from piece to piece. What I like best is that the gloss version is very transparent, more so than any other acrylic I have ever used. And it's very abrasion and scratch resistant. Have used a lot of acrylics, and this is my baby. When spraying you definitely need to wear a face mask with an organic filter, the smell is pretty strong. This may be why spraying is not recommended by the manufacturer. But once the paint is dry (which happens fast) there is literally no odor from the work piece such as you get with solvent sprays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great protective finish with a ton of uses super durable and works well with paints and stains.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product dries so fast that it laps and leaves work marks on surfaces applied to. I would not purchase this product again. It is a product that can only be sprayed to obtain an even finish
