ill this product cause wood to swell. I want o use it on bird carvings where maintenance of burned in or carved in detail is important.

The product is for sealing the carving before applying gesso and painting withacrylic paint

is this finish food safe?

i would like to know if this product is safe for woodturning and bowls
Asked by: jm
Certainly not. There are products that are food safe once cured, but they generally are all labeled as such. try looking for salad bowl finish if you want something with a build or butcher block ( more like an oil) or just used Mineral oil which is a cheaper alternative to butcher block finish.

1 qt. Gloss Clear Brushing Lacquer is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from love! I used this to seal a dresser i painted olive green. I initially used a natural fiber brush but that left brush marks. I ended up using a roller brush, the home depot version of a mohair. I absolutely love the finished product.

Home depot no longer carries the brand I normally use so I reluctantly tried this. Absolute mess. cleaned wood with L thinner but still left some tiny white spots like oxidation underneath the finish and slightly cloudy. Would not level out on a small flat surface. I generally would use one of the spray variants, and just use an HPLV. Problem with bad finishes is cleaning it up cost more in time than any decent product would cost if you could find it. HD PLEASE restock Deft. Even though its not a professional finish it works fairly well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horrible to work with. I can honestly say this is the worst finish of any type I've used in my 53 years. I built another set of speakers and was really hoping the hype on this stuff was real. But it's not. I purchased a $15 natural brush as recommended and followed all instructions on the label. The first thing I noticed is this stuff dries so fast it makes it near impossible to finish brushing on. These were small speakers about 10" x 6" per side and it was drying on the side I was working on before finishing. It gums up into clumps on the edges if you're not careful. Definitely won't be buying it again. I will say I've had real good luck with Minwax stains over the years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great finish if you do it right I have used this on a few custom guitars, I tried it out because I wanted to have a brushed effect in the finish without adding color, now it's my go to finish for new guitars and fixing scratches in repair jobs. If you sand very lightly between coats with worn down 100 grit sandpaper it lightens the brush marks and keeps the finish flat and smooth. Works great and I recommend it highly for a bright durable finish.
