Customer Reviews

1 qt. PolyShades American Chestnut Satin Stain and Polyurethane is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a traditional Stain- So don't treat it that way I have used this product on several occasions from candy dispensers to bunk beds and I have had good results. The keys are working fast and don't treat it like a regular stain. You cannot wipe it and you use your brush strokes to smooth out the finish. If you treat it like a paint, than you will be fine. Like I said, work fast and treat it like a paint and you will have good results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big mistake! I wish I had read reviews of the other polyshades colors before buying this product as several other reviewers experienced what I did. I was staining a pine shadowbox frame which I made. At first this seems to be working, but quickly I realized it was more like paint then stain. It starts to dry very quickly. After it starts to dry it becomes impossible to do any touch up. Even if you are fast you end up overlapping what you've already done when you are doing other sections and it just gets worse. It ended up looking blotchy, also gets very dark in corners and ends. It's so thick that you lose sight of much of the wood grain. After the 2nd coat wasn't fixing it I had to completely sand this off and go buy regular Minwax stain - which btw, they don't sell the same color as this. This product was a huge waste of my time and very frustrating. Do yourself a favor and apply the stain and polyurethane separately.
