This stain was very disappointing. There is nothing golden about it. It is a very dirty yellow color. The photo I have included on the left is this stain. The one on the right is the natural oak plywood color with only 3 coats of plain polyurethane on it. May as well use plain poly and no stain for a nicer look.

This product, matched perfectly the can that was at least five years old. I had two cans five years apart. It was a perfect match. Did exactly what it was supposed to do. I would recommend. And the color was not too dark, it was the color on the can.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by HomeDepotFan Believe the reviews--this is not Golden Oak
We are adding on to our early 1920s house and looking for a golden stain match the existing red oak floors that are currently golden. Our contractor picked up a small can of this product as tester and it is much more brown than we expected, as HBrown and VRDave have already indicated in their reviews. We also tried the natural stain, which brought out the nice pink tones of the red oak, but obviously did not even come close to the golden color of our existing floors.
Still on the hunt...We're now going to try Old Masters.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Ken Does Not Look Like Golden Oak
Something is definitely wrong here. I used "Golden Oak" on plywood a couple of years ago and it looked like Golden Oak. I purchased this Golden Oak [same product and shade as I have the old cans] and used it on remnants of the same plywood and it is not even close. This is very dark. The formulation or something must have been changed. I agree with the other reviews that this is not Golden Oak.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by VRDave Not Golden, more like walnut
Just as HBrown discovered, the resulting color from this stain is not even remotely representative of what is on the label. I have no idea what kind of wood you would have to use to produce the color on the label. I also went with a clean poly to get the more desired result.

I used this stain on my table and chairs for my dining room and it looks wonderful. The color turned out exactly right and it was a very easy process.
